SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing was at CAULFIELD on Saturday on GOOD-3 track, rail was 9m. The better ground was away from that inside rail especially as the day wore on. Many slowly run races and a tighter than normal track (rail 9m) made for a larger than normal ‘Forgive File’ given plenty found traffic/ trouble !

Run Of The Day:
Honourable mentions go to ULMANN and SACRED EYE with a narrow ‘’winner’ this week, TARZINO in the last, at just start No.3 he was straight out the back early and gave the leader (who was runner-up) a massive head start before sustaining this long, wide run… despite this, he was THE strongest at the end (11.65 last 200m was not only race-fastest, but good relative to the day), his ran his last 1000m in 57.5… Excellent win!

…As mentioned, the runner-up was stablemate (filly) SAILING BY who had led in an even 49.63 1st-800m, she was only grabbed late. ETYMOLOGY was back with the winner 1000m out, he went between runners and copped a couple of baulks, he did hit the line nicely, he ran 58.07 last 1000m and 11.79 last 200m note. ASSERTIVE STAR looked every hope into a sound 4th, he is still learning the caper. Of others: PAY UP BRO found line (3rd-fastest last 200m) as did ZAPURBLY who made his run 1-off the inside so doubt was in the A-ground. They ran 1-37.44 for 1600m.

Race 8 was The Naturalism and MAGNAPAL had the right run but had to be tough late, and was, just holding out THE UNITED STATES who raced tight around that 125m mark and you could argue that loss of momentum was costly! GENUINE LAD did well on-speed given he was 1400-to-2000m 2nd-up and BOLD SNIPER, well, how good could he be if he settled? He over raced for the majority of the first 1200m of the race yet somehow still managed to hit the line in 11.51 his last 200m, the fastest of the race! KAPOUR led in 1-15.95 1st-1200m so ran along ok and only wilted the last 100m, that tops him off? ALMOONQITH with blinkers on went way back and made good ground (home 11.52) and OUR IVANHOWE certainly raced like a stayer, didn’t quicken but kept getting stronger as race went on! They ran 2-02.78.

Race 7 saw the trifecta come from the back despite a slow 36.31 1st-600m so all honours to them, they were: POLITENESS (always runs great splits home, almost always flies fresh – she ran 21.97 / 11.13 home), GRIANTE (ridden colder she ran day’s fastest 11.03 last 200m) and JESSY BELLE (back/ tight and stayed on inside rail, not the A-ground, yet ran 11.11 home – she is flying!!). Of the others: VEZALAY (sound back in trip on quick back-up but again found a few better), ATLANTIS DREAM (good return) and the very raw SATYA who was back with the trifecta, didn’t quicken at all, then warmed up and hit line sweetly (11.17 home). Time: 1-10.76.

FELL SWOOP is a winner!! 3-wide on-pace no cover (slow speed – 36.75 1st-600m and only one turn Caulfield sprints) and had to really dig late! HE did, suspect he ‘’sold’’ a few doubters with this win. CHARLIE BOY sat off them, got the run and just missed, he gave 1st, 3rd, 4th 5-to-5.5kg’s and the return was super. JAVA followed winner and loomed, fancy he peaked late (didn’t go through line) and fitter now. ULMANN was excellent here, back between runners off that slow speed, just love how he kept winding up and he was right on the heels of the trifecta on the wire, he recorded an 11.29 last 200m, clearly race-fastest, in for good prep this guy. ROYAL RAPTURE went super too, see him in Forgive File… Time: 1-10.93 so… .44 slower early than the Mares and .17 slower overall.

Two very good fillies quinellaed Race 5: DONT DOUBT MAMMA sat off the walking speed, copped a baulk just as leaders kicked then balanced-up and zoomed to the line. SACRED EYE sat just off the winner, wider then was forced wider again turning before attacking the wire, I mentioned the ‘’walking speed’’, well, leaders crawled through a 51.33 1st-800m so these two girls were dominant coming from off the pace, they ran some of the best closing splits of the day, winner 22.04/ 11.09 and runner-up 21.99/ 11.13. Overall time slow but it had to be given that tempo, they ran 1-25.62. LAZUMBA warmed up nicely very late again (only quinella had faster last 200m) and she is desperate for ground this prep it seems, she is going much better than your form guide is telling you!

Race 1 saw BASSETT sit off the hot speed whilst his two key rivals were up running 1-2 and cutting at each other, winner won well and is smart, the two leaders were hot fave KEEN ARRAY (led inside with no peace) and MAWAHIBB up outside and ‘’at’’ him, they ran 29.2 1st-500m, to put that into some perspective, when Rich Enuff led here at this trip a few weeks back, he ran 29.5 1st-500m. Overall time was good: 1-3.43. The first five only had 1.9L over them but confident the race/form will be strong.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
RHYTHM TO SPARE (not much luck), SCHOCKEMOHLE (wide/ worked forward), CORAM (never got out !), COLLINS STREET (never got out !), ALLEYOOP (held-up/ made nice ground!), SARDAAJ (caught wide), SCRATCHY BOTTOM (back/ slow pace and held-up when starting to make nice ground), LUCKY LAGO (poor recovery), UNGRATEFUL ELLEN (K.O’d !!), HELA FLYER (wide), ROYAL RAPTURE (back/ held-up/ clear late and did hit wire), GALAXY PEGASUS (badly blocked), EXODUS (back/wide), MECIRE (same boat), HAZARD (too wide), SCARLET BILLOWS (no luck), CAFE SOCIETY (wide) and ZACADA (covered ground).

In Sydney it was RANDWICK on Heavy-8 track upgraded to Soft-7 at race 3, the rail was True and the pattern clearly suited those away from the inside rail.

Run Of The Day:
king with RULING DYNASTY and KERMADEC but pointy end of the prize goes to KIMBERLEY STAR who was caught wide off the strong speed, she improved and hit the lead but the quinella, from the back, had the last crack at her and went by, she ran a minty race to keep third !

Winner was PEARLS who relished the hot speed (they ran sub-47 1st-800m here on Soft ground), like the way she joined in top of straight leaving runner-up HONESTA in her wake, that girl wound up strongly though and really attacked the line getting within .3L off Pearls. HONESTA ran 12.6 last 200m, clearly race-fastest. SEMPRE LIBERA went well her fresh too given she was forced to slower inside lanes, she trialled nicely prior. Time: 1-24.44.

To the G1 and KERMADEC was too strong 3rd-up! He sat off them with nice trail, he was ridden very confidently, went through his gears and ran over ROYAL DESCENT (every hope/ so genuine) and PORNICHET who led narrowly, off the rail, then kicked really strongly, his run was excellent even allowing for the even 49.7 1st-800m given no leader won all day and he is length better drier for mine. LUCIA VALENTINA (tardy/ weaved through/ good) and KIRRAMOSA (back/wide/ good also – she is flying) had identical 12-sec flat last 200m splits.

PREFERMENT won Hill Stks sustaining a long, wide run, the runner-up MAGIC HURRICANE had spent less petrol by the time they were near each-other (800m), and, he then got onto winner’s back before hitting the lead… Winner was tougher/ stronger at the end of the 2000m no doubt! All honours winner. Plenty of other good run and first eleven home here covered just 2.7L. COMPLACENT led at the good clip on a better track to be swooping and did a great job to hold 3rd. WHO SHOT THEBARMAN is on target, home 12.02 nearer inside, he had fastest last 200m of the race and wasn’t in the best going. Most of these ran well.

COUNTERATTACK won race 1 off a good 29.23 1st-500m speed, they ran some 3L quicker early than older horses Ball OF Muscle for the 1100m so runner-up HAPTIC has done a very good job leading against the pattern. TAKEDOWN didn’t ping like winner but was good late. Time: 1-4.99

REBEL DANE won in 1-4.67 for 1100m off a 29.73 1st-500m and great to see him back off that wind operation. BALL OF MUSCLE almost lasted! SHIRAZ went inside them and gave his all but was just no match today. ROCK STURDY warmed up late, in fact, he had quickest final 200m split of these horses.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
NOT A CHERRY (wide), MINE TWO (worst ground), SOFIA ROSA (too close inside), IN HER TIME (amiss), HOOKED (no peace/ pattern against), RAND MARSHALL (shuffled back/ stayed hard on inside/ ran well !) and CELTIC PRINCE (stayed inside).
