PLEASE NOTE:
All ratings for FLEMINGTON are for GOOD track. Rail is out 7m. Was 4m last week and those on inside few lanes had a distinct advantage. At this meeting last year they went from True to 3m (off a similarly inside biased track on Newmarket / Aust Cup Day) and the track played more evenly, however, those on inside few lanes certainly were not disadvantaged. As stated, this year they come out 7m which may offset the issue? Straight races at this meeting last year were won up the middle.
In Sydney it is ROSEHILL and ratings are for SOFT-5/ GOOD-4 track range. A hot day is predicted on raceday so this track may well improve through Saturday. The rail is back TRUE. Was 8m here 28/2 and the inside lanes were inferior ground, it was 6m 24/2 and most edged away from those inside lanes this day also. Latest TRUE rail was Jan 27 and there was no bias evident that day.

BET OF THE DAY (Melb)
FLEMINGTON – Race 1 No.3 – QUILISTA – Wide with big weight and very good fresh then was on the heels of some star sprinters in G1 Oakleigh Plate. Like her better at 1200m. First go straight.

BET OF THE DAY (Syd)
ROSEHILL – Race 2 No.6 – STAMPEDE – Had task up on hot speed at WFA fresh then led but stayed on slower insider lanes last time, take Winx out of it and he wasn’t far off others. Down in weight and class and out to 2000m ideal. Love that 3rd to Harlem (high rating race) at 2000m at end of last prep for this

BEST VALUE BET OF THE DAY
ROSEHILL – Race 6 No.2 – MURAAQEB – Very good closing in Hayes Stks then forced very wide in G1 latest yet still worked home nicely out to 1600m. May cope better than Holy Snow with drop to 1500m? Looks value early.

BEST EACH-WAY BET OF THE DAY
FLEMINTON – Race 8 No.5 – SOHO RUBY – Was 7-weeks between runs into latest and back last under pressure then attacked line in high-rating race (good time) and has beaten Pedrena at 1600m… Fancy she wants this trip again now. Looks some overs early.

BEST ROUGHIE OF THE DAY
ROSEHILL – Race 9 No.11 – GENERLAISSIMO – Went back to slower inside lanes last time, forgive that. Was on heels of Prompt Response (run well in G1) at end of last prep and in BM89 with 55kg, out to 1350m, drawn well… Think his price of $15 is wrong!

Lay Of The Day:
FLEMINGTON – Race 7 No.4 – OVERSHARE – Has a case and not worried 1400m but up a notch here and too close in market to G1-competitive horses?

TOP-RATED RUNNERS:

FLEMINGTON

Race 1 – Mares – SWP – 1200m

  1. 3 – QUILISTA – Wide with big weight and very good fresh then was on the heels of some star sprinters in G1 Oakleigh Plate. Like her better at 1200m. First go straight.
  2. 7 – WRITTEN ERA – Resumes. Won BM78 well fresh last prep. Went on to finish alongside Quilista in Listed grade and both of these girls had little luck that day, behind Deja Blue, on biased track.
  3. 1 – FRENCH EMOTION – Resumes. Very quiet jumpout. Gave 3kg to Written Era and beat her home in Blazer Stks here fresh last prep at 1400m. Has won fresh at 1200m. Is best suited this weight-scale!
  4. 4 – HEAR THE CHANT – Trialled super before the good return win here up straight (is now 2 for 3 up straight) and 1200m no issue. Gets weight relief. Can easily tie her in through quality mare Prompt Response.
  5. 2 – DEJA BLUE – Had excuses last time (pulled up distressed – race rated highly) and she did beat a few of these, as mentioned, in Spring at SWP.

Race 2 – 3YO Hcp – 1400m

  1. 2 – SCARECROW – Measured up well Vs Grunt and Co in high-rating Hayes Stks then had good run and beat key rivals here last time, again he ran time. Jump to 59kg and relative weights against him here but fancy is still on upward spiral.
  2. 5 – HOLBIEN – Led (was not easy as day wore on and wind picked-up) yet kept kicking and was only worn down late in that Scarecrow race last time. It was his first go 1400m too. He has 3kg swing on Scarecrow and, if it is advantage leaders like last week, he will be very hard to run over!!
  3. 12 – TBILISI – Beat subsequent winner (Forsure – is here) fresh then swung wide Mv and flew at the line. He wants 1400m now. Ignore other 1400m miss when lame. Will make a nice horse.
  4. 4 – MURAAHIB – Really charged late to just miss Scarecrow here and he too has weight swing. Looks back to his best now, his best had him on the heels of Merchant Navy and Booker in Spring remember.
  5. 7 – INDERNILE – Was 5-weeks off into Scarecrow race and was way back and came wide no trail yet still attacked the line late. Gut feel is maybe he wants 1600m now so just shuffled him down a touch but he has a strong case also.

Race 3 – 3YOF SWP – 1100m

  1. 1 – TIME AWAITS – Resumes. Led/Won trial quite well. Split Formality and multiple G1 winner Shoals fresh last prep. Ran on well behind Shoals in Breeders Stks here last year against day’s pattern.
  2. 5 – DEMERARA – Nice trial before giving weight and a beating to Freeze Over fresh, that filly then was not far off Regimen here last week, she had just run very well in Typhoon Tracy Stks. In this!
  3. 6 – LUQYAA – Resumes.  Worked home and given quiet jump out. Ran on hard in Cap D’antibes here in Spring off moderate tempo. Drawn to swoop. Good roughie.
  4. 4 – PLOVERSET – Resumes. Untouched/ Good jumpout. Wasn’t far off Crown Witness fresh last prep and has been Shoals competitive. Back from injury but yeah, looked good at the trials. Wary !

Race 4 – G3 2YOF – 1200m

  1. 2 – KHULAASA – Broke clear along inside in Talindert here and it took some serious closing sectionals from Prarie Fire to beat her, he then ran 4th in Blue Diamond, this girl thrashed 3rd. They ran good time.
  2. 1 – KRONE – Drew widest in Cinderella Stks and went back last then ran over them all. She was right behind Aristocratic Miss prior, she has just run well in Blue Diamond and a Sires Stks.
  3. 6 – CRISTAL EYES – Nice jumpout before weaving through and attacking lien on debut in a strong 2yo maiden. Winner Tin Hat and 3rd-Akkadian both just ran well in G2 Sires Stks. They ran time also.
  4. 3 – METRONOME – Beat all-bar good one (Sanctimonious) with gap 3rd on debut then wide yet too good for Sundarbans last time. Drawn out. Proven 1200m.
  5. 5 – NADURI – Ran some good splits on debut then was on heels of some smart ones here and she acts like 1200m will suit her.

Race 5 – G2 Blamey Stks – SWP – 1600m

  1. 2 – HUMIDOR – Hit line sweetly fresh. Has won twice 2nd-up and last time he was at 1600m he thrashed Hartnell / Black Heart Bart here. Small field will have him in striking distance.
  2. 1 – TOSEN STARDOM – A horror story fresh. Stayed at 1400m in Futurity and beat all-bar Brave Smash (since so good in Newmarket) and said winner had dream run. Wants 1600m now. Has fitness edge on stablemate Humidor??
  3. 3 – HELLOVA STREET – Only gets 1kg off top-two this scale which makes it tough. Loves it here. Very good miler. If it’s leader biased again, he will give a sight !!
  4. 4 – ODEON – Did more than enough fresh. He has 2nd-up form and fitter/ further big ticks. Did measure up OK into G1/WFA before spell when 2.5L off Tosen Stardom.

Race 6 – BM80 – 2000m

  1. 7 – ADDISON – Ran home nicely in Listed grade in Adelaide last time, winner there then ran Ok in G3 and and Adelaide Cup. Like blinkers going on now and back to BM80. Stays month between runs (like last start) which fancy suits her. Claim helps. $11 looks overs.
  2. 4 – HE EKSCELS – Won 3 of 4 with blinkers on. Led and too good for key rivals at Sale when only 2nd-up and stepping quite sharply in trip. Any bias on-pace?? If so, this is your pony.
  3. 11 – BIG PAT’S PONTIAC – Chased promising one here last time and now gets weight relief. Building very good record around this distance range.
  4. 5 – SHERLOCK HOLMES – Resumes. Stable’s horses flying. Good when 2.2L off handy Anaheim rest last prep and like the Violate form for this grade.
  5. 12 – CONDAMINE – Did look good racing away at Terang off genuine tempo. Sectionals home were nothing outstanding but solid enough for step to BM80, with weight relief, and yes 2000m.

Race 7 – Listed March Stks – 1400m

  1. 8 – THEANSWERMYFRIEND – Resumes. Trialling well. Borderline G1 horse at 1400m and proved that with fast wins here and, his very good effort in G1 Rupert Clarke Stks!
  2. 5 – WYNDSPELLE – Back and wide in G1 Futurity and that no guide. Was on heels of Aust Cup quinella Harlem/ Gailo Chop prior when slow start was no help. Has come up nice odds… Is G1 placed !!
  3. 7 – MASK OF TIME – Resumes. Also come up big odds. Ran very well his one Oz start sitting behind hot speed in G1 Toorak Hcp… Hmmm
  4. 12 – OVERSHARE – Beaten in quick time by Cliff’s Edge 2nd-up then too good for C-team latest. Takes on older horses but 3yo’s keep measuring up. Doubt 1400m any issue.
  5. 2 – SOVEREIGN NATION – Had a task from way back in Futurity. Beat all-bar Tosen Stardom in G1 Toorak Hcp remember. Expect much better !

Race 8 – BM80 – 1600m

  1. 5 – SOHO RUBY – Was 7-weeks between runs into latest and back last under pressure then attacked line in high-rating race (good time) and has beaten Pedrena at 1600m… Fancy she wants this trip again now. Looks some overs early.
  2. 3 – TOP OF THE RANGE – To 1600m 2nd-up and came away to win like a good horse at Caulfield. Up in weights here but very promising. Goes close.
  3. 2 – PORTMAN – Good return when on heels of Ken’s Dream (ran well in G1 newmarket) then forget last week ever happened on that track, he didn’t pull-up well either. Now gate 1 on quick turnaround.
  4. 8 – ABYSSINIAN – Limited luck MV then good chase last time to 1400m. Has more upside than many and gets some weight relief. Mile looks ok.
  5. 7 – BALCAZAR – To 1600m latest and good effort with weight. Has run well to Willi Willi which can be tied in here…

Race 9 – BM80 – 1200m

  1. 1 – MILKAUKEE – Resumes. Has winning form off little freshens and has been on heels of Land Of Plenty (and subsequent G1 competitive Dollar For Dollar). Drawn out.
  2. 4 – HANDSOME THIEF – Had quickest last 200m split of the day 2nd-up and looked ready to win 1200m but drew poorly and pulled-up with some issues. Draws in again so…pattern??
  3. 8 – BORD DE GAIN – Excellent win last time after covering ground and being hampered by interference. Also draws in.
  4. 10 – SACRED SHAM – Has form here at 1200m through Ken’s Dream and drawn to be handy out deep.
  5. 7 – HIGHLAND BEAT – Beat Sacred Sham and Ken’s Dream here last prep. Been quite good both runs back. Draws out. Race does not end there…

ROSEHILL

Race 1 – BM82 – 1900m

  1. 9 – ALL TOO SOON – Promising filly who gave 2kg to male Condor and beat him here 2nd-up jumping 1400-to-1800m. That 3yo was then only beaten 3.5L by Kementari in G1 last week. 3rd-horse was just beaten in track record time Newcastle.
  2. 8 – TAMARACK – Just no match for another up and comer in Just Shine Randwick latest off that terrific win overcoming difficulties, these are his only two goes beyond 1600m. 4th-horse from latest Almost Court then won Canberra Cup
  3. 5 – ZOURKHAN – Month off into latest and closed well beating all-bar Almost Court and Emperor’s Way, they both then won again! Like him around 2000m range best.
  4. 1 – QUICK DEFENCE – Very good win from back (great splits) Randwick beating Malaise and The Pinnacle (good form). Jumped in weights and too good again Canterbury last time. Flying!
  5. 6 – CYRUS ROCKS – Led and beat all-bar Just Shine last time giving 3.5kg away and that here then beat Tamarack as mentioned… Must have a case too.

Race 2 – Sky High Stks – 2000m

  1. 6 – STAMPEDE – Had task up on hot speed at WFA fresh then led but stayed on slower insider lanes last time, take Winx out of it and he wasn’t far off others. Down in weight and class and out to 2000m ideal. Love that 3rd to Harlem (high rating race) at 2000m at end of last prep for this.
  2. 9 – SALSAMOR – Ran home well fresh behind King’s Command (looks like Phar Lap last week) then back and wide in Aust Guineas yet did find the line. Another back from G1 class. Yes 2000m now. Danger.
  3. 2 – LIBRAN – Found line nicely in Chipping Norton fresh and ran by Stampede. HE won Kingston Town Stks 2nd-up last prep at 2000m beating a good field and was $26 that day.
  4. 3 – MACKINTOSH – Worked wide early fresh and held on well. Jumps 1300-to-2000m here so may need one more but was right behind Happy Clapper his latest 2000m run so….
  5. 5 – AUVRAY – Ran last fresh but ran well (sectionals good) then mile back here latest and again made up stack of ground. Improver here 3rd-up to 2000m.

Race 3 –  G2 Magic Night Stks – 2YOF – 1200m

  1. 1 – SUNLIGHT – Had the drop on Estijaab but was shade too strong late despite 6-weeks between runs. They ran fast time off fast pace and gapped 3rd (Gongs – ran well last week). Winner won again. MM win prior at 1200m was brilliant.
  2. 10 – CRISTOBEL – Trialled well before neat debut win beating Terminology who had just run 4.5L second to Sunlight so that ties in obviously. Sunlight has had five starts so this girl should have more upside and may improve further on drier ground.
  3. 5 – FUTOOH – May be best blowout hope here. In desperate need of blinkers for mine and they go on. Couldn’t keep up early in Sweet Embrace but did like 12.27 last 200m when 2.9L off Seabrook on wire.
  4. 2 – SETSUNA – Led in 34.7 1st-600m fresh and only collared 125m or so out. Fitter for fresh run at 1200m and arguably should have been 3 from 3 on dry in first prep.
  5. 6 – INTO THE ABYSS – Rock solid on-pace that same race and was month off there… Each-way hope also.

Race 4 – G2 Pago Pago Stks – 2YO C&G – 1200m

  1. 1 – WRITTEN BY – Heavily backed to win Blue Diamond and he was dominant, the final margin was 2.5L and although other Diamonds have rated better, the form behind him is stacking up nicely. Yet to be closer than 3-deep  all three runs! Draws gate 4 today.
  2. 13 – CHABREET – Started $3.9 on debut but ran out badly. Has since trialled when led/ won untouched beating Legislation and he looked good! Big price early markets… Good talent it seems! Worth a ticket.
  3. 8 – RINGERDINDING – Had backing on debut and won that Charbeet race beating Vega One who’s form can easily be tied in with Zousain who was close-up to Santos and Spin two weeks back at Randwick.
  4. 5 – SPIN – Went back on rail fresh in Skyline and ran on well splitting Santos and Legend Of Condor. That form has been proven in recent weeks also. Fitter/ Better for that ?
  5. 4 – LEISLATION – Freshened. Was ridden but did close in heat behind Charbeet. They both went well. Beat Fiesta on debut. Can forgive MM miss when stuck trouble.
  6. 11 – VIRTUAL INSANITY – Looks desperate for 1200m. Had quickest closing splits on debut up straight …

Race 5 – McCarten Stks – 1100m

  1. 2 – NIETA – Resumes. Drift back in latest trial, hooked out widest and ran over them all under no riding. Lovely work! Was 3 of 4 fresh and was 3L 3rd to Redzel in the miss. As 99-rater she is so well in here.
  2. 12 – SPRIGHTLY LASS – Looks smart and was dominant fresh (resumed without trial). Only beaten once (very wet) and although 78-rater, she has the upside/ capacity to quickly progress…
  3. 5 – HIEROLYPHICS – Way back fresh and ran terrific splits home then raced tight key stage and clearly should have finished closer to Perizada latest, she then ran well again in a stronger race.
  4. 3 – PALAZZO PUBLICO – Was not disgraced in Oakleigh Plate. Hit line prior behind Lady Esprit and Snitty Kitty, they were both good in that Oakleigh Plate. Has form here! In this.
  5. 1 – DOTHRAKI – No recent wins but gallant last time and drop to 1100m is no real issue. IS left alone at top of the weights here…

Race 6 – G2 Phar Lap Stks – 3YO – 1500m

  1. 2 – MURAAQEB – Very good closing in Hayes Stks then forced very wide in G1 latest yet still worked home nicely out to 1600m. May cope better than Holy Snow with drop to 1500m? Looks value early.
  2. 1 – HOLY SNOW – Quickened impressive fresh then way back and ran home well in Aust Guineas pipping Muraaqeb near home. Like blinkers going on to offset coming back 1000m !?!?
  3. 8 – SHUMOOKH – Led/ Gave little kick and only worn down late by some class fillies last time… Dual acceptor.
  4. 10 – UNFORGOTTEN – Had cardiac arrhythmia fresh (did trial well prior but was betting drifter). This has less depth in any case, and fitter. She looked a group horse to my eye last prep!
  5. 4 – CALCULATED – Freshened. Caught deep in fast MM race on Gold Coast and kept coming. Was only 2.7L off Pierata who then beat all-bar Kementari in G1 last week
  6. 7 – PARET – Unsuited/ Excuses both runs back… Suited 1500m now. Always had time for him, fancy time to step up now!

Race 7 – G1 Coolmore Stks – F&M – 1500m

  1. 7 – EGG TART – Lovely return from her when badly blocked behind some high-class males, she only was clear 100m out and flew late. She is unbeaten against her own sex. Needs good ride gate 3.
  2. 2 – SILENT SEDITION – Didn’t attack line fresh and was worried then blinkers on and controlled race before scorching home in slick splits. Beat males in G1 last prep off just about the ‘Run Of The Year’ in this race last year. Draws much better this time! Go well.
  3. 18 – OREGON’S DAY – Chased Flippant hard giving weight away fresh and just missed, the race rated well (good time/ splits) and she ran very, very well here last year to Foxplay remember. With 51kg she is a great value play this race for mine.
  4. 1 – DIXIE BLOSSOMS – Just too much class for them fresh. Ignore her miss this race last year when very wide. G1 Myer run in Spring super. Meets Oregon’s Day 4kg worse for beating her narrowly last Autumn.
  5. 15 – BRING ME ROSES – Ran very well chasing hot speed in Aust Guineas Vs males. Charged late in Vanity Stks fresh prior. Back in trip 100m only tiny query…
  6. 8 – ALIZEE – Good return in fast time then wasn’t as dynamic 2nd-up. Her 2nd-up run was not her peak last prep and fancy drier ground the better for her… Check track rating! G1 filly no worries !!

Race 8 – G2 Ajax Stks – Qlty Hcp – 1500m

  1. 3 – COMIN’ THROUGH – Returned gelded. Trialled great. Ran home hard off hot speed fresh and did it with 59kg. Drops to 56kg here and beat Tom Melbourne fair and square 2nd-up last prep.
  2. 2 – TOM MELBOURNE – Resumes. Wide/ Terrific trial. Stiff fresh last prep then wide when .8L off Happy Clapper. Meets Comin’ Through 3.5kg better for their Spring clash.
  3. 1 – PRIZED ICON – Going super for this stable. Chased and beat all-bar Winx 3rd-up out to mile. Some query coming back 100m and does give weight away to all but winning hope !
  4. 6 – ARBEITSAM – Just never got a crack at them in Liverpool Cup. Beat all-bar Care To Think prior (easily) and they ran very fast time. Drops 54.5kg here.
  5. 8 – LIFE LESS ORDINARY – Resumes. Found line nicely in trial. Just missed Comin’ Through fresh last prep with 2.5kg less.

Race 9 – BM89 – 1350m

  1. 11 – GENERLAISSIMO – Went back to slower inside lanes last time, forgive that. Was on heels of Prompt Response (run well in G1) at end of last prep and in BM89 with 55kg, out to 1350m, drawn well… Think his price of $15 is wrong!
  2. 9 – PHILOSOPHY – Resumes. Home hard in good trial. Won her last two fresh and 5 of 8 overall deleting heavy track miss when she didn’t handle it at all.
  3. 5 – UP N ROLLING – Worked early fresh and went down swinging! Impressed winning 2nd-up last prep at 2000m so staying at 1350 here some query but in quad for sure… Is better than 89 class.
  4. 8 – TRIBAL WISDOM – Should’ve won fresh. Best win was this direction at Gosford. Suited 1350m. Dual acceptor.
  5. 7 – MOST EXALTED – Too wet fresh. Big finish (won on protest) 2nd-up last prep beating Wild n Famous. Big improver here !
  6. 1 – ETYMOLOGY – Top return from him but another staying at shorter trip so may need one more now…?

Good luck !

– Gator
