23 Oct Zipping Classic Day – FULL G1 Email
PLEASE NOTE:
All ratings for SANDOWN (Hillside) are for DEAD track. Rail is TRUE. Was 12m here last meeting and swooper’s (up middle) had a significant advantage, some 10mls of rain predicted raceday so MUST watch and monitor pattern through the day, I would be surprised if the inside lanes were the right place to be especially as the day wears on.
In Sydney it is ROSEHILL and ratings are for GOOD track. Rail is 3m. Track has been playing very well of late. No bias/pattern expected unless track becomes very firm… Then, on-speed runners are favoured.
BET OF THE DAY (Melb)
SANDOWN (Hillside) – Race 5 No.4 – PRINCE OF PENZANCE – Outstanding win in MV Cup off slow speed (11.6 last 200m at the end of 2500m was fastest all day outside of Lumosty’s race) then just missed in Q.E. Stks with 58kg on that Good-2 track, he must be flying if he’s running that well on a Good-2. Bit of rain ideal.
BET OF THE DAY (Syd)
ROSEHILL – Race 5 No.6 – MALICE – Made a good one (Best Case) work to beat him here last time out to 1800m, they had a margin on 3rd. Looks to get gun run here third inside and 1900m no issue. Keen.
BEST VALUE BET OF THE DAY
ROSEHILL – Race 6 No.5 – YOU’LL NEVER – Great return win charging over top off a strong BM96 field. Better suited 1350m if anything. three natural leaders means speed should be on. Simply flying and overs at $7 as I type.
BEST EACH-WAY BET OF THE DAY
SANDOWN (Hillside) – Race 6 No.6 – ESCADO – Was best closer (best late splits) in G1 Emirates last week on better day to be nearer the speed. Back a notch here and out to 1800m are big ticks. Great each-way value. Any rain just a bonus.
BEST ROUGHIE OF THE DAY
ROSEHILL – Race 7 No.12 – NISROC – Backed heavy fresh but trapped very wide. She was good WFM 2nd-up last prep when 3rd to handy Oh So Adorable despite covering ground there. In light here. Come up big odds! Overs?
Lay OF The Day:
ROSEHILL – Race 3 No.4 – FRESNAPOL – Flying this prep and liked him a lot last time, however, $2.8 equal fave with Church Boy??? No thanks!
TOP-RATED RUNNERS:
SANDOWN (Hillside)
Race 1 – Listed 2YO – 1000m
- 7 – THURLOW – Trialled well in fast time behind a star in Fontiton then raced up straight no cover and beat all-bar one (spruiked) Godolphin debutante, they ran useful time.
- 1 – JACQUERIC – Liked his trial before terrific debut when outsped and very new but rocketed late (best closing splits) and winner looks smart (and was on quicker inside lanes this day), only three Maribyrnong Plates have been run quicker in last 20 years.
- 4 – MESA – 1st-start. Trialled well when 2nd to Bantam (fave/ good in that fast Maribyrnong Trial) with good gap to 3rd, this guy was ridden a bit, but went well.
- 9 – HELL OR HIGHWATER – 1st-start. Sat off speed in trial and went through nicely under light ride. Has good ability too it seems.
- 3 – EXACTING – 1st-start. Sat off speed in jump out and held ground without being knocked about, also looks to have ability.
Race 2 – G3 Sandown Stks – 1500m
- 2 – PORNICHET – Liked his Oz debut when keen early then ran home well behind subsequent G1 winner Hucklebuck, his last 200m split was race-fastest, better for that and suited 1500m.
- 1 – SPEEDINESS – Has been found out in fast-run 1600m races of late, he barely runs that trip, now is back to 1500m and back to G3 grade. Left alone at top of the weights but he is the only proven G1 performer here. Can win!
- 6 – RED BOMBER – Has won 4 of his last 5 and had genuine excuses in the miss. Streeted them last time in $80k Peninsula Cup Mornington and maps well here up 3rd, 4th. Can measure up.
- 8 – GENERAL GROOVE – Off back-to-back wins and in latest he held off Spy Decoder who, two runs back ran quickest late splits in a G1 Epsom behind winner, He’s Your Man. The 1500m is no issue. Chance!
- 7 – LADY LAKSHMI – Was $14-to-$7 last time but didn’t finish off. Her 3yo form around handy gallopers (often with far from ideal runs) reads well.
Race 3 – Listed 3YOF – 1400m
- 3 – MORE RADIANT – Forced to cover ground last time behind Tawteen who led (on leader’s track). Thought this girl went well. Tawteen ran terriifc in a hot race Oaks Day. The Earthquake form prior is G1 Coolmore form. 1400m and wet should be no issues. Maiden.
- 1 – WINE TALES – Just a horror watch last time, safe to say she goes close to winning with any luck at all. Prior to that she produced the best late splits of the day to win in Sydney, and beat Careless before that, he ran well in G2 Carbine Club.
- 4 – DUAL STAR – Copped check key stage from (smart) winner last time yet still closed strongly, Tawteen and Eloping were in that race so it was a hot version and, that ties her in with More Radiant ans Co. Has a case!
- 7 – WROCLAW – Came wide too soon in the same race as Wine Tales, she was good, and must have a case if Wine Tales does. Do think the quinella there are smart. Has upside this girl.
- 2 – MUSCOVADO – Doubt was in the A-ground last time and 2000m probably tested her anyway. She beat Kermadec and Abduction prior, that’s great form!
Race 4 – Listed Sandown Cup – 3200m
- 7 – RENEW – Was not disgraced in Caulfield Cup then bloused by Grand Marshall latest (beat 3rd clearly), that winner had just run 2nd to Order Of The Sun who finished 3rd in Bendigo Cup so that ties in nicely.
- 5 – ZANBAGH – D-Day looms but she ran OK on hard track in Q.E. Stks and finished alongside, Bring Something so… Bit of rain a help.
- 2 – LIKE A CAROUSEL – Raced a bit keen last time. He is strong stayer but must relax early this level. Geelong Cup run was good and it was a deep race this year.
- 6 – ANCIENT KING – Was not in the best going in that Bendigo Cup. He was OK in Ramsden Stks at 3200m on dry, he is length or two better with jar out…
Race 5 – G2 Zipping Classic – WFA – 2400m
- 4 – PRINCE OF PENZANCE – Outstanding win in MV Cup off slow speed (11.6 last 200m at the end of 2500m was fastest all day outside of Lumosty’s race) then just missed in Q.E. Stks with 58kg on that Good-2 track, he must be flying if he’s running that well on a Good-2. Bit of rain ideal.
- 5 – AU REVOIR – Led (slow pace) and held 3rd in MV Cup behind Q.E. Stks quinella, his Melb Cup run was huge given he covered grounbd in fast run race. At WFA he has .5kg swing on top-pick. Never easy 3200-to-2400m but.. the danger.
- 9 – EPINGLE – Stuck to task well in that strong MV Cup given the tempo was not there for her, and, she is likely fitter now. She finished with Precedence (then 6th in Melb Cup).
- 6 – SPILLWAY – Is a query at the end of 2400m still but his latest attempt was a brutal Metrop. less tempo here probably key. Good late in deep G1 McKinnon last time.
- 8 – COUNT OF LIMONADE – Can win if rain has come. A risk if dry. Beat Prince Of Penzance on wet in Moe Cup then had excuses Bendigo.
Race 6 – G3 Eclipse Stks – 1800m
- 6 – ESCADO – Was best closer (best late splits) in G1 Emirates last week on better day to be nearer the speed. Back a notch here and out to 1800m are big ticks. Any rain just a bonus.
- 2 – RHYTHM TO SPARE – Was better than Escado in G1 Toorak and ran super then found to be lame last week on Good-2 track so forgive that one. He can win if right!
- 3 – PHEIDON – Brave on-speed Cup Day behind G3 winner. His record at 1600m+ is very good. G1 Epsom run says thsi G3 is in his reach.
- 9 – ZABISCO – Loomed a bit 2nd-up in that Pheidon race which was won closer to the inside. That peaks him. Come up good odds and perhaps the best roughie here?
- 7 – EXTRA ZERO – Just cannot nail another win! Has relative weights in favour from Kyneton Cup and gets good run.
- 1 – SONNTAG – Good return win and Sale Cup form has been franked. Not easy 58.5kg but he is a G1 winner…
Race 7 – G2 Sandown Guineas – 3YO – 1600m
- 2 – STRATUM STAR – Caught wide in Carbine Club and beat all-bar Kermadec who had it softer, and looks very good, they got away on 3rd. Has gate 2 here and leaning to this form over Hilton Stks.
- 7 – DUCAL CASTLE – Held-up on heels then flashed late behind Lord Aspen, you could argue strongly he should have won it. Step to mile looks suitable. Danger.
- 4 – LORD ASPEN – Won that Hilton Stks despite not having much idea what was going on. He had a few behind him who had run quite well in hot G1 Coolmore the week prior. Has immeasurable upside to him. Mile looks a non-issue.
- 9 – REKINDLED POWER – Hit line Ok behind Kuro (very good in Coolmore) before bolting in the maiden. Will relsih 1600m himself. Has real upside also.
- 3 – PETROLOGY – Had right run and won last time, he played-up badly pre-race so that adds merit to the win. Back to 1600m some query and more depth here but has a case.
Race 8 – G3 Kev Heffernan Stks – WFA – 1300m
- 5 – GENERALIFE – Found line last time behind Hucklebuck (then won G1) with pornichet (ran earlier) in behind. Wide/Good prior running on behind Emirates runner-up in Lucky Hussler. Proven WFA.
- 6 – CHARLIE BOY – Chased Deep Field last time when solid 4th, he thrashed 5th, fancy the trifecta there would be well fancied here. Tempo of 1300m looks ideal for him.
- 1 – FAST N ROCKING – Chased good one all the way to the line last week and gave him weight. Doubt the drop to 1300m is any issue at all. Been genuine since the gelding op! In Cahoots form ties in.
- 11 – SWEET AS BRO – Great jump out before flop fresh and freshened. Has the talent and good roughie is near right.. Goes in for mine.
- 4 – REPARATIONS – Top win fresh off lovely trial and he ran time. Any rain won’t hurt. Trip non-issue. No knock.
Race 9 – G3 Summond Stks – mares – 1500m
- 3 – POLITENESS – Ran well in G1 Myer and was close-up but fancy the end of 1600m just tested. Back to G3 here, back to 1500m and nice big track.
- 2 – ESTONIAN PRINCESS – Beat Politeness home in Myer and hardly had ton of luck, made a handy one in Neena Rock work to beat her prior. Is flying. Gate awkward.
- 6 – ROSE OF CHOICE – Raced keen early last time, she still shot through but Mahara got out and nailed her. Note blinkers come off here. The fresh run in Nivison when wide was excellent.
- 8 – MINNIE DOWNS – Did find line off slow speed latest and wants all of 1500m on big track here. Underated and big odds here. Goes in!
- 12 – BELLE DE COEUR – Strong home down middle 3rd-up in Rose Of Choice race, meets her 1.5kg better, was 5-weeks off into that too… Chance!
- 1 – SHE’S CLEAN – Wide/ Forgive last run and well up to these herself…
ROSEHILL
Race 1 – 2YO SWP – 1100m
- 3 – PACEMAN – 1st-start. Sat handy and raced away in trial, looked smart, ran around 3L quicker than Right Of Way on the day.
- 5 – PHILOSOPHY – 1st-start. Speed/Excellent trial win herself and she ran good time for the morning.
- 6 – RIGHT OF WAY – 1st-start. Another good trial winner, as mentioned, time was around 3L slower than Paceman but she has good ability too it seems.
- 1 – ZULU ROYAL – Was $26-to-$41 on debut yet defied that closing strongly on debut here but winner had last look at him. Looks depth here.
Race 2 – 3YOF BM72 – 1300m
- 2 – LUCY’S LOOK – Had her 59kg latest and looked stiff not to beat Sebrina who then had little luck herself behind I Am Zelady who is here. Awkward draw but can clearly win.
- 4 – SNOW WHITE – Has turned the corner now, sound maiden win in useful time then straight to town and looks quite good WFM with 58kg. extra trip here ideal.
- 3 – I AM ZELADY – Sat handy on debut and raced away, was $8-to-$13 there, but looked good, time was ok. Level of improvement key.
Race 3 – BM80 – 1500m
- 3 – CHURCH BOY – Looks smart. Far too good for Hollywood Bound last time, he had just dead-heated with Terai who ran so well Flemington last week. Go back three runs and he toyed with Pillow Talk (good last week).
- 2 – ABBASSO – Trapped wide fresh and have to forgive. Won maiden easy 2nd-up last prep then went on to beat Black Revolver (and other subsequent Saturday winners that race).
- 6 – MORAL VICTORY – Good on-pace fresh albeit, in on-pace race but that form has been franked. This guy also has the scalp of Black Revolver. Rarely misses first four.
- 5 – HOLLYWOOD BOUND – No match for Church Boy latest but 2kg swing helps and mentioned the Terai form… Must have a case then.
- 4 – FRESNAPOL – Two from two this prep and beat Timeless Prince in latest who ran well again last week. Up to 58kg and fancy this BM80 has more depth but no knock.
Race 4 – BM95 – 1100m
- 7 – GREEN BERET – Caught wide on-speed here fresh with 62kg and was so brave. Atmosperical then went to Flemington and won. Bloused by Diamond Oasis two-back and meets him 5.5kg better!
- 2 – DOTHRAKI – Nice trial then good fresh run when looked winner but was swamped by You’ll Never who is flying. Wa snot far off Sidestep and Bounding 2nd-up last prep then won 3rd-up. Danger.
- 4 – DIAMOND OASIS – Worked early yet too strong late two-back and Shiraz emerged a good winner from that race. Great effort MV latest given his 61kg, yes pattern helped and yes, weights are dead-against but he is in this.
- 1 – ZARATONE – Made a promising one work to beat him fresh, they ran sizzling time/splits. Claim is clever (and needed) here.. No recent wins but still got it the old boy.
- 8 – AGENT – Stuck to his task latest in that (fast) Zaratone race with no weight. Claims down again and fitter.
Race 5 – Hcp – 1900m
- 6 – MALICE – Made a good one (Best Case) work to beat him here last time out to 1800m, they had a margin on 3rd. Looks to get gun run here third inside and 1900m no issue. Keen.
- 8 – REIGNING – Back and in trouble fresh then found line sweetly. Just even 2nd-up in Malice/ Best Case race but 3rd-up to 1900m a better recipe.
- 3 – LUCKY CHAPPY – Led them up that same race and held on ok for semi-distant 3rd, has 2kg swing on Malice so certainly has a case.
- 5 – BEYOND THANKFUL – Hard to follow. If he runs to the Grand Marshall/ Saigon Tea run here latest he will go close, those two ran super Flemington through carnival… Hard to trust is all.
- 2 – MIDSUMEMR SUN – Had excuses in slowly run Coongy then back in trip and just OK in the Malice race… senior rider up.
Race 6 – November Hcp – 1350m
- 5 – YOU’LL NEVER – Great return win charging over top off a strong BM96 field. Better suited 1350m if anything. three natural leaders means speed should be on. Simply flying!
- 2 – SCREAM MACHINE – Outsped fresh in fast-run 1100m race. 2nd-up last prep he was running home hard in G1 WFA Domben 10,000 at this trip. Angland knows him well.
- 3 – HEART TESTA – Ridden off speed at 1400m latest and closed well (after being forced wide) in feature race Hawkesbury. New string to his beau? Loves Rosehill.
- 1 – MOURO – Resumes. Stranged/Closed in top trial. Beat Mourinho (that’s The Cleaner form) fresh last prep giving him 4kg. Claim important here down from 62kg.
- 9 – BOSS LANE – Two good wins (and form behind strong!) then forgiving last run when wide. Draws in. Deep race this.
Race 7 – BM75 – 1350m
- 12 – NISROC – Backed heavy fresh but trapped very wide. She was good WFM 2nd-up last prep when 3rd to handy Oh So Adorable despite covering ground there. In light here. Come up big odds! Overs?
- 1 – COMMANDING WIT – Lovely late work in Nivison (that form measured up Flemington) then things did not pan out well last time, in blanket go, and she is better suited 1350m anyway. Against males but claims down.
- 9 – WINSOMEMORE – Started fave to beat Church Boy fresh but found to be sore. Kept fresh. Good talent and Bowman sticks… If right, fancy he is up to these and may be overs himself.
- 11 – MASTERSTROKE – Will bob up one of these days. Backed off the map off freshen latest in race won by the handy Shiraz.
- 3 – O’REILLY’S REVENGE – Draws out but can offset that quickly here going forward. Showed great gate speed last time and led/fought well. Had Church Boy form prior on wet, is better dry. Chance too.
Race 8 – F&M BM80 – 1200m
- 3 – MAMWAAZEL – No luck fresh. Carted 60kg when nutted by in-form Sense And Reason 2nd-up last prep. Races well here. Is genuine and this has a tail to it…
- 14 – FIFTYSHADESOFGREY – Big finale fresh in the Shiraz race and 1200m suits better. 2nd-up stats are misleading! Senior rider up. Chance.
- 4 – CHATHAM HOUSE – Solid on-speed fresh in blanket go. Missed on heavy track 2nd-up last prep. Had not missed top-3 previously when 2nd-up. Gets nice run!
- 8 – MESMEREYSER – Resumes. Made nice ground under no real riding in trial. Ran home hard fresh last prep at midweeks in a race not much stronger than this. Tough/Wide finish to day…
