SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:

Racing was at CAULFIELD for Guineas Day on GOOD track with rail back True. Many predicted the fence would be a no-go zone however the track played quite well. In sprint races it seemed an advantage to stay off the inside rail to the turn. Seven of the ten winners settled in the first few spots, two others drew gate 1 and sat just off the speed.

RUN OF THE DAY:
With 53% of your vote (join the conversation each week @gatorgately on twitter) it was STAR TURN and hard to argue with this result. He sat with the leaders 3-wide in a near line of 4 and jockey Craig Williams could not hold him any slower! He tracked up and took over under  ahold then sprinted away from genuine G1 horses running a slick 1-2.89 on a day they were not running sizzling times.

The leaders went 28.78 1st-500m (solid) and STAR TURN ran 11.19 400m-to-200m then 11.90 homier a dominant display! He was very well backed also. Runner-up MALAGUERRA sat off-speed deep and closed strongly into clear second (home 12.01) with FELL SWOOP third (12.13), he got onto the back of Star Turn but was left ‘standing’ when winner kicked, worth noting though, he did get away from the others in quite good style. OCEAN EMBERS kept closing from the back running 12.06 home. TURN ME LOOSE was run off his legs at 1100m but ran 12.16 home so warmed up quite nicely.

To the G1 action and the Caulfield Stks looked a barrier trial for WINX and it was, loved the fight of BLACK HEART BART though, he just never gave it up! For the record: Out 1-17.89 1st-1200m and ran 2-03.42 winner ran 56.83 last 1000m !!

R7 was Thousand Guineas and GLOBAL GLAMOUR was simply too good for them! She led in 49.49 1st-800m (or .7 slower than males (Evacuation)) so she would have been around 4L off Evacuation at the halfway point if both races were run together, she left the rail then kicked in strongly. In fact, she actually recorded the fastest last 200m split of any runner (11.52) despite others having cosier early runs, safe to say, she was simply too good!! Great training effort to back-up 7-days and travel interstate it should be noted. I AM A STAR was runner-up and she came from midfield and railed through, her 22.71 last 400m was race-fastest but she was 4th-fastesdt (equal) her last 200m running 11.62. WHISPERING BROOK was every hope but gave her all, her 11.62 last 200m matched that of I Am A Star. FOXPLAY was a touch awkward on the bend then did find the line nicely (11.53 last 200m) with HARLOW GOLD next (kept closing without threat – ran 11.63 home). SEBRING DREAM ran 11.58 and is looking for 2000m it seems. They ran 1-36.84

R8 for the boys and DIVINE PROPHET had the economical run gate 1, squeezed through and had to be tough late, he was! He ran 1-36.51 off 48.8 1st-800m so leader here EVACUATION would have been around 3L in front of Great Esteem (led in Toorak) and 4L in front of the girls (as mentioned) 800m out. SEABURGE rushed home in race-fastest 23.03/ 11.77 and ran by IMPENDING (sound – home 12.03) with HEY DOC splitting those after sitting midfield with cover, he hit the lead 200m out but was just no match for the quinella late. SO SI BON was ‘’stopped’’ when building momentum then picked-up and hit them line sweetly, gee he ran well, he still managed an 11.93 home. There was 2.7L over the first eight home here.

R9 was the Toorak and HE’S OUR ROKKII traveled strongly behind the 49.36 1st-800m speed, the run came, he didn’t ‘’explode’’ but built his momentum strongly to wear down leader GREAT ESTEEM who was well-rated. TIVACI had his cjamce but was sound in third with ROYAL RAPTURE fourth despite sitting up outside the leader without cover, worth noting, his trainer had consistently spoken of his need to ‘’get cover’’ or he races to keen, he held on well. The first four here were all nearer the speed, AWESOME ROCK was the best closer, he ran 12.12 late into fifth (only winner 12.07 was faster) and he did have 58kg. BON AURUM wasnt quite as strong at 1600m (12.37 home) but another sound effort from him, COUNTERATTACK is better suited 1400m also. They ran 1-36.18 and you’d expect race to ‘’rate’’ better than two 3yo events, and it did.

Back to R5 and SHEIDEL controlled the race, she sat up on 34.33 1st-600m and dug in well to beat SILENT SEDITION who is part of this strong 4yo mares crop and her return was good. A LOTTA LOVE charged home in clear race-fastest 11.56 and is ready to win. RAVI came with her after being forced wide on the bed and went 11.69 home, AMERISTRALIA measured up well in a race she couldn’t win at the weights, these five had 2.8L of spare on the sixth horse SECRET AGENDA who was a bit disappointing. Winner was backed heavy and ran 1-9.04 for 1200m.

HEAR THE CHANT was really the only swooping winner and she won R3 in 1-9.76 off 34.57 1st-600m, in fact this race, the trifecta were all wide with cover… and a stack of forgive runs behind them!

THE FORGIVE FILE:
PLATINUM (mucous detected), BANTER (bucked early!), PRINCE OF PENZANCE (injured), PROMPT RESPONSE (heavy bump key stage), SELENIA (wide on-pace), BRULEE (was closing when luck ran out!), ANGHARAD (no luck entire straight), STOP MAKING SENSE (internal bleed), COLDSTONE (wide), EXCLUSIVE LASS (wide), MISS GUNPOWDER (lame), LA LUNA ROSSA (slow recovery), LEOTIE (ditto), SAMARA DANCER (covered ground), LEGLESS VEUVE (issues), GOOD STANDING (wide/ good), SO SI BON (as mentioned), JACQUINOT BAY (4-wide), MISS ROSE DE LAGO (3-wide), THE MONSTAR (wide on-speed), HUCKLEBUCK (not much room!).

In Sydney it was RANDWICK on GOOD-3 track with rail 6m. It was a day of fast time and fast closing sectionals but there was no mad pattern/ bias evident.

To the G1 and YANKEE ROSE was backed heavy late given she was, arguably, a better ran than Global Glamour in The Flight Stks (gap 3rd) and that filly had just won G1 Thousand Guineas fifteen mins earlier, she took some winding up from off midfield but that last 100m or so she was going ‘’two to their one’’ and the closing splits back that up, she ran 33.14 last 600m and an 11.14 last 200m, these splits were dominant in the context of the race. She ran 2-02.43 off a 1-27.51 1st-1400m, she did run significantly faster than older male Broadside for the 2000m earlier in the day, however, in this race they went roughly 7L faster that first 1400m so be careful there. SWEAR had every hope but kept closing and tipped out PRIZED ICON for second spot, both had every chance. VELADEROsat second and HONEYWINE sat one-one, both were close-up, in fact only 1.8L covered these five with 2.3l gap to the rest. RETALIATION is worth a mention though for further, he was second-fastest home (11.33) and went over the line nicely. For record: PRIZED ICON was 11.38 and SWEAR 11.44

G3 Angst Stks was Race 8 and smart mare DIXIE BLOSSOMS was far too good, she went back, she weaved though and once gaps came the race was over for her rivals, she scooted home sub-33 last 600m (32.97) and went 10.65 400m-to-200m before near 11-flat last 200m, she can come to Vic and win a decent race. She ran slick time of 1-34.01 off 59.83 1st-1000m and beat LADY LE FAY (had the run/ sound) and HAPPY HANNAH (made good ground through on inside) with EXTENSIBLE (good late out wider – home 11.19) fourth.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
GOODFELLA (very green/ hung/ did hit line/ has ability!), HIPPARCHUS (ran out of room), MURPHY’S DELIGHT (on heels 550m/ made good ground), ZANBAGH (back/wide/ ran well for wetter), TAILEVENT (not much rom), LUNAR RISE (wide no cover).
