SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing on Saturday was at FLEMINGTON on a Good track, the rail was out 9m and most avoided the inside lanes, in straight races the winner’s were well off the inside.

Run Of The Day:
The three nominated for voting on twitter (@gatorgately) were: SUPIDO, THE QUARTERBACK and DAN ZEPHYR, and, thanks to your votes, this week’s winner was SUPIDO (47% of votes).

NOTE: I will post/ nominate on twitter, each Monday, three or four horses for Run Of The Day honours, the ‘’winner’’ will be the one who, simply, has the most votes!

SUPIDO was most impressive and classes above his rivals in Race 1 on Saturday, he wasn’t brilliantly away then was forced to the slower inside rail and had to sustain a long run given he had nothing to drag him into the race, yet, he raced away and was hardly punished doing it !

He ran a 1-3.98 for the 1100m off a strong 29.37 1st-500m, the tempo was set by JUST A BULLET and he would have been leading the other 1100m race (led/ won by Heatherly) by some 3.5L with 600m to travel. Runner-up GOOD OFFA missed the kick and ran home hard out wide (in best ground) in a nice return, this horse has beaten Durendal home and was huge odds. He ran 11.93 home (Supido 11.94). CHIAVARI was best backed at odds and an honest third. Liked the run of IT’S A SHAME BILLY too, he hit the line 12.22 despite heading to that (slower) inside section.

Speaking of HEATHERLY, well, she was terrific leading all the way from the inside alley after navigating a path up the middle, she put a gap on them 300m out and just lasted from ALMIGHTY GIRL who really launched late, it was only her second race start, these two had 2.2L on the rest of the field. We thought it was a deep race going in, the times back this up, winner ran 1-3.68 so .3 faster than the smart Supido despite a significantly slower 1st-500m split of 29.97. Other good runs: MAKE HER OWN WHEY (weaved through/ closed well), LABDIEN (kept closing/ ran 11.87 last 200m/ suited further!) and ALASKAN ROSE (got left when they sprinted but ran a race-fastest 11.85 home). LOVE DAYS disappointed as did MAGNA ROSSA.

To Race 6 and KING’S COMMAND is flying this prep, he tracked a strong 47.5 1st-800m speed and found best ground and won well beating DUIBIO who rushed home despite his 59.5kg and HARBOUR GREY who was one of the better runs all day given he blew the start then ran home 11.9 last 200m off that strong speed. MIHANY (not much peace up front) held on well for 4th and watch POLAR VORTEX for further/ easier, only DUIBIO was quicker that last 200m split. Overall time was a slick 1-22.32

The other 1400m race was won by DAN ZEPHYR despite his 3-wide trip! He ran 1-22.49 off a solid 47.92 1st-800m so, the race looked thin, but rated quite well. THE NEW BOY led and slipped away but found one better. AGENT kept closing but was no match for the quinella. DIG A PONY looks ready to win over further, she took winding up but that last 100m was nice! AULD BURNS ran enormous fresh the old boy off that wide run.

The Kensington Stks was the feature and 3YO HEADWATER is back! He tracked the speed up the middle and wore down BULLPIT who gave a great sight again, they ran fast time (56.9) too. THE QUARTERBACK carted 60kg and ran home hard but his run had ended near the wire (still ran race-fastest 11.46 home) and he will be fitter. THE MONSTAR is underrated, he was baulked key stage and right on their heels on the line. HARD STRIDE looks back, he ran home well and was backed. YESTERDAY’S SONGS found the 1000m too sharp, simple as that, he was good late (11.55 last 200m) in a nice return.

The last was won by PEMBERLEY and he has a future. Sat off them midfield, needed a run in straight but once clear was strong to the wire beating SIEGESTOR who ran home past middle and is going super. CAPODECINA ended up closest to the inside and he ran very well also (only winner strong last 200m) at big odds. The race became thin pretty quickly after these I fancy… Time: 1-49.36 for 1800m.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
READY SUNSHINE (poor recovery), JUST A BULLET (went too hard), MISTER MILTON (lame/ yawn!), ZUPACHARGED (1200m too sharp now), TIDY PROPHET (worst ground), BASS STRAIGHT (tempo against), STAR ROLLING (stayed inside rail??), SKY DAZZLE (cardiac arrhythmia), PATTERN (green/ rolled to slower inside lanes), AYRES ROCK (wide), WILD RAIN (had a busy prep!), BEL SEAL (too close), BEST SUGGESTION (slow recovery), AZURITE (wide/ worked early and ridden upside/ down).

SYDNEY was ROSEHILL and track went from HEAVY-8 to SOFT-7 then the last two races were abandoned !! The pattern suited those away from the inside rail here too.

Keen to compare the two 2YO feature races:

Race 3 (Boys) was won by TESSERA who led in 30.46 1st-500m) then left the rail, he was grabbed by DEFCON 200m out but fought back and was quite strong on the line. MOUNT PANORAMA sat wide no cover and was left a bit, then came again late, he went well. STAR OF MONSOON wasn’t and sound but no match for a few.  They ran 1-6.08

Race 4 (Girls) was won by HONESTY PREVAILS and she ran 1-5.73 but we have to note A) the 1st-500m split was 30.01 (.45 faster than boys) and the track was on the improve! Winner impressed though, weaving through and bursting clear, SMART AMELIA sat off speed with cover and closed well and CHIPANDA sat wide no cover and loomed to win, she was very good also, they all trialled exceptionally well prior. NONPAREIL copped a baulk and made a sound debut, FOXILY ran home well wide, SPRIGHT ran home well on slower inside section, and, managed a race-fastest 12.4 in that slower section, she went very well!
