SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing was at SANDOWN (Hillside) on Saturday, on GOOD track with Rail 5m. All winners bar RUNWAY STAR were in the first five at the 800m mark, all winners bar CHILE EXPRESS were off that inside section.

RUN OF THE DAY:
Runner-up prizes this week go to SINGLE DAYS and JAMEKA but giving the nod to RUNWAY STAR who was having her first run for P.Moody, sat back then raced past match-fit and flying ANTARCTIC MISSILE and ”won running away’’ which just love seeing! Add to that her splits home 21.7 and 11.16 were amongst the fastest all day and, as mentioned, she was the only winner further back than 5th (mid race) all day!

Runner-up ANTARCTIC MISSILE lost no admirers, she raced to the lead despite wobbling a bit turning, just had no answer is all. SINGLE DAYS charged late in 11.24 (21.75 last 400m was 4/100ths slower than winner’s), GRANE was sound in 4th but had same task as the winner, good for easier though! O’MALLEY the disappointment, maybe racing tight between horses was against. They ran 56.27 for 1000m off a 34.28 1st-600m.

Lining those older sprinters up with 2yo’s (given all three races were run over 1000m) is easy, let’s start with the Inglis Race (R5) won impressively by STOKER who was backed with blinkers added, he had the good run but did win well and ran just 1/100ths second slower than Runway Star at 56.28, what makes that more impressive is the fact their race was run at an identical 1st-600m split of 34.28. MANHATTAN BLUES did not quicken like winner but was strong late and recorded an 11.17 last 200m compared with winner’s 11.35, he too had blinkers first time. JAMEKA drifted way back and really found the wire on tough day to do same, her 11.15 last 200m was race-fastest, and one of the day’s fastest. KEEN ARRAY led, faded late but held 4th. ANDRIOLI and EOLANDE were never likely, however, had 4th-quickest and 5th-quickest splits home.

The other 2YO race was Race 4 and it was won by THURLOW (also well backed) fresh, she had the right run just off a strong 33.69 1st-600m speed and won quite well, her time of 56.43 was (.59) slower than STOKER and Co. despite a quicker early split so race has not ‘’rated’’ as well for mine. HAYBAH sat off leader inside and kicked through, she ran well on strong speed. BROOKLYN was sound fresh. PARCEL went quick out deep but got lost up straight and ran about, given that, she went very well also. PROMPT RETURN? Expected better but lookers said he would be fitter.

William Hill Plate was the feature and PROFIT SHARE finally won a decent race, he did it well too, yes he was match-fit and all rivals were fresh-up but he ran 1-17.61 overall and 11.11 last 200m (day’s fastest closing split), that is his true ability! STRATUM STAR closed well for second (home 11.25) and MERION did well up on-speed fresh. CHIVALRY (home 11.27) was sound also given the moderate early tempo of 49.58.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
BROCKOFF (sore), DEJA BLUE (played-up pre-race/ trialled super prior), THUNDER GUN (lame), ONEROUS (stayed on inside lanes), GOULDIAN (not in A-ground either), LATEVA (wrong spot), O’MALLEY (between horses???), TADDEI TONDO (bit against/ track too firm also), SPIRITOF ENDEAVOUR (pulled/ wide on-speed), FINAL JEST (tardy again/ got lost) and KWANZA (mid race check).

In Sydney it was ROSEHILL on GOOD track with RAIL 3m. There was no mad pattern/ bias evident.

RUN OF THE DAY:
Filing the lower podium spots this week were IDEAL EXPRESS and DELECTATION but have to go with TALES OF GRIMM for major prize, he was slow out, recovered to midfield then was held-up coming into straight (whilst others have momentum) then really stretched recording quickest closing splits of the day! Terrific return.
… He ran over fit/ flying TAHITIAN BLACK too (good again!) with EARNEST ERNEST charing home along inside lanes for 3rd. The fave, WOODBINE was niggled the whole way off strong speed and never really travelled, he ran home well but was no match winner. It was run-ons race, best on-pacer was 5th-horse NOTHING LIKE LUCA, so, he went well given context of the race. Time: 1-9.82 off 35.04 1st-600m.

The Eskimo Prince looked a ripper race, and the first four home were all terrific. Winner SCISSOR KICK had the 1 -1 run and ran over DELECTATION who led and slipped away but ducked in sharply 150m out, fancy it cost him the win!? Either way, his return was super. HARRIER JET (fit/ every chance) was a solid 3rd back to inside and KERMADEC peeled out and looked the winner, fancy his run ended 100m or so out, fitter now! These four got away on the rest. Time: 1-9.96 off 35.8 1st-600m so, they went slower than older horses despite a near .8-second (say, roughly 4L) quicker early split.

CATKINS won the Breeders and kept her amazing fresh record in tact, she had to really dig as LILLIBURLERO was in for the fight after doing a touch of early work. They beat 3rd clearly, that 3rd-horse was MIHIRI who was fit, measured up well though. 4th, NEENA ROCK who was sound after being forced back between them nearer inside, all her form is outside of horses. JUST A BULLET had sound late splits for 5th. PLUCKY BELLE was average off great trial win. They ran 1-9.34 off 35.09 1st-600m so winner was some 2-3L quicker than Tales Of Grimm on the day, off a near identical early split.

2YO Inglis race was won by LADY JIVAGO who had the good run, no knock but fancy she was lucky given runner-up IDEAL EXPRESS was back, wide and had to sustain a long, wide run, kept closing though! Very good effort. SERENADE had little peace up front yet kicked, she had no answer late but went well given the pressure. ODYSSEY MOON had good backing, was every hope, ran 4th. DARTS AWAY closed well 5th and these beat rest easy. Time: 1-10.85 off strong 34.85 1st-600m.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
KONTIKI DANE (lame), DIAMOND VALORES (run off legs!), OUR VOODOO PRINCE (missed kick / on-pace race) and SCREAM MACHINE (back/wide VS race pattern).
