SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing was at MOONEE VALLEY on Saturday on a SOFT-5 to GOOD-4 (upgraded) track, the rail was TRUE, the pattern was suiting those away from the inside rail. No leaders won (two ran second), and all nine winners were off that inside rail in the home straight.

RUN OF THE DAY:
Thought both LORD DURANTE (led Vs pattern) and ORION were terrific, and they made the podium, however, giving the main honours to the promising ACT OF VALOUR. Yes he was well ridden and had a nice drag into the race but he quickly put a good field away (and was well backed)…

…the race ‘’rated’’ highly on the day too, his overall time of 1-31.87 was only .10 off that of ORION for the same 1500m trip later in the day on an improving track and much quicker than the following race (also 1500m) won by SMASHING DOUBT, in fact he ran .34 quicker than Smashing Doubt despite the 1st-900m split of 55.73 being some 7-8L slower!! Wow. The runner-up here was MANHATTAN AVENUE who was just held up a touch at a vital stage then strong at the wire, he beat 3rd easily and gave the promising winner 3.5kg, and was 2nd-up 1200-to-1500m, follow! RECALCULATE joined in before the turn and was a sitting shot for the quinella given then pattern, he ran well, similarly SECRET BLEND was there early and ran well. ROCK OF CAISEAL had 3rd-quickest final 200m and broke 12-secs (11.98) behind quinella who both recorded an 11.72.

SMASHING DOUBT won Race 4 well off that strong (54.46 1st-900m) tempo and no shock he improved on drier to this trip, great to see KING WAY run well, he raced tight at the vital stage too, he should have finished closer to the winner and he does have some world-class form lines at home. NORTHERN JET joined in wide (best ground) before the turn and ran well, the quinella had the last crack, both SAWAWAK and TALLAT were good for something easier nearer to the speed on a better day/race to swoop.

METAPHORICAL won Race 6, she was well ridden but did chase hard and was giving weight to some males, runner-up LORD DURANTE led in 48.91 but then went for home 600m out and gave a huge sight against the pattern, winner wants 2000m now. REFULGENT is testing the friendship but was solid again and DIGITALISM was near the winner 500m out, didn’t quicken (and was left by her) but wound up late, he ran 12.12 last 200m whilst winner was race-fastest 12.05. Overall time: 1-37.48 for the mile, they went 1.8-seconds quicker, overall, than the other mile race won by EAST AFRIKA (queries on rating of THAT race!!).

Race 7 saw ORION come from last and widest, he kept finding and all honours to him (albeit with no weight) beating JESSY BELLE (every chance/ solid) and CHARMED HARMONY (brave leading Vs pattern) with MISS ROSE DE LAGO (solid 2nd-up herself), these four had a little margin on VENTURE ON who worked home OK for something easier. LUCKYI’MBAREFOOT was sound for something wetter also. Early split 55.87 and overall: 1.31.77

No knock on KAREEMING winning Race 8, yes he had the right run but it was his first go 2500m and he beat a handy field. BLACK JAG was gallant, again, given the pattern at stupid odds. LADY CUMQUAT was the best closer (also her first go 2500m) and USE THE LOT stuck ok but did split the quinella in the run. Nothing really stormed home this race….? Hmmm.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
HARD LIL (held-up/ lost spot), SISTINE STAR (held up badly!), FITNA (too keen/ pattern against), VOLCANIC ASH (led keen Vs pattern), OH SO ASSERTIVE (too much pressure), CARASHAN GIRL (worked the first 800m of the race!), JUST HARLEY (swoopers race), GO DE ORPEN (still not out), GLOWSTICKS (pressured Vs bias), DEFINIA (worked early vs bias), CORONATION SHALLAN (in worst ground), CLANGA’S GLORY (wide), VERDANT (lame), MONKSTONE (blocked key stage) and NULLEI (worst going).

IN SYDNEY it was ROSEHILL on SOFT-7 track with rail 3m. The better ground was away from the inside rail here also and swappers certainly had their chance.

RUN OF THE DAY:
Both ECUADOR and VERGARA impressed leading all the way but giving main ‘prize’ here too MIGHTY LUCKY who chased the tearaway leader, collared him, and then held off all-bar one despite staying too close to those inside lanes…

…said winner was YOU’LL NEVER who is deadly when things pan out for him, and the tempo is there, he certainly had both factors in his favour today and duly saluted! RUGED CROSS was good, the big query was the drop to 1400m and suspect that’s what beat him. EIGELSTEIN was very good late, his 12.24 last 200m was race-fastest and he can win soon if tracks remain wet. They ran 1.26.27 for 1400m here.

Race 6 saw SAVOUREUX win, luckily, but we never decry winning form. Runner-up KAEPERNICK just threw the race away by laying on badly late, he is a serious talent! AEROBAR shared the speed and held 3rd (best on-pacer) and GRUNDERZEIT was crowded up when the wayward Kaepernick went by and certainly forgive the margin, however, yeah, that horse went straight by him!

Race 7 and VERGARA led/impressed beating ROLE MODEL who sat second. GEORGEY AEROPLANE was the pick of the closers (home 11.88 last 200m was race-fastest) and HOLLYWOOD BOUND was quite good making ground nearer the inside given, as stated, this race the quinella sat 1st, 2nd.

In the last AUSSIES LOVE SPORT onto better than Heavy round was a shade too strong sitting off the strong speed, he was well ridden from awkward inside alley and did give plenty of weight to the placegetters so… hard to pot the win! TURBULENT JET is going super and was very strong at the wire (just missed/ ran 11.9 last 200m/ He was only horse to break 12-secs that last 200m). MORAL VICTORY went well, he took over after sitting just off the hot speed but the swoopers arrived. ROCKALONG kept finding the line and GOT THE GOSS was good late (home 12.1).

THE FORGIVE FILE:
SHELLEYS GIRL (wide), RAIN AFFAIR (led Vs pattern but…it’s Rain Affair!!), AERONAUTICAL (unsuited), BASCULE (blew start), CAMPANOLOGY (worst ground), IMPULSIVE SPIRIT (wide).
