NOTE: G1 subscribers, we will have ratings for all eight races this Wednesday at Sandown so keep an eye on the in-box.

SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing was at FLEMINGTON on Saturday with Rail TRUE. Track was rated GOOD. The inside lanes were avoided by most, in straight races, winner’s were well off that inside section.

Run Of The Day:
A couple of lovely return runs from WANDJINA and AKAVOROUN saw them on the podium this week but hard to go against the mighty LANKAN RUPEE who just blitzed two exceptional young gallopers in the G1 Lightning Stks and ran some amazing splits doing it…

His overall time was 56.29 off a fast 33.34 1st-600m, despite the hot speed he was still able to reel off these 3 x last 200m splits: 10.4/ 10.35/ 11.11 (so 31.88 last 600m) and yeah, gave DEEP FIELD windburn, and left BRAZEN BEAU standing! No knock on BRAZEN BEAU here, he appears better suited further than 1000m yet still got by DEEP FIELD and ran 56.68 himself. WATERMANS BAY was just off the winner mid race but he too was left behind, worth noting, his last 400m split of 21.82 was identical to that of BRAZEN BEAU, his last 200m, was 11.24, bettered only by LANKAN RUPEE…

Race 6 was a highlight race, the CS Hayes Stks and WANDJINA did a terrific job, he led in 48.62 (even tempo) but seemed to race keen, he left the rail and was challenged by two who had softer runs than him in behind, yet fought them off, these two (placegetters) were DISPOSITION (got up inside winner and looked home) and STRATUM STAR (had great run/ just could not reach them). MERION kept finding the line (4th) and CHIVALRY had race-fastest last 400m off the even speed and went well, it is worth noting, the winner (leader) actually recorded the fastest closing 200m split so, yeah, he was as strong as anything to the line! Overall time: 1-22.27

Race 8 was the other sprint feature and HARD STRIDE led up the middle and kept going far too well for them, he certainly didn’t go mad (35.3 1st-600m – So Sweet Amily in race 4 would have been leading him 4-5L midrace) yet ran good overall time (1-9.14). MAGNUS REIGN continued his honest form back towards inside lanes and MANDLA off the back of a top trial was a sound fresh 3rd after racing handy. Loved the return of AKAVOROUN, he was hard at it 500m out (1200m too sharp) yet was strong through and over the line (home 11.94), DIG A PONY closed well late (11.94) and MR CHARD had race-fastest last 200m, 11.86 back nearer inside… It was a race of little change this one so merit is added to those who did make ground!

The Vanity was Race 3 and SWEET AND SPEEDY stormed over Oaks winner SET SQUARE, it was a lovely ride, he just tracked that good filly into the straight and had the last crack. Worth noting the swoopers ran 1-2 here, doubt we will be sacking WAWAIL off this effort, she did not have much peace up front yet kicked strongly before being swamped late, the other on-pace runners dropped off. FENWAY (sound return) was 4th. They ran 1-24.13

Smart win in smart time CHLOE IN PARIS (race 4), factor in their 1st-600m split of 34.51 Vs the 33.34 of the G1 Lightning (over 7L slower 1st-600m) and her overall time of 56.87 is exceptional. RUNWAY STAR rushed home again, she again had some of the better closing splits all day (11.22 last 200m). SWEET EMILY led and held 3rd, just, from ANTARCTIC MISSILE (sound – better let run ???) with DAY AFTER TOMORROW ok of readier. SECRET TOY BIZNESS was outspend but late splits were bettered only by RUNWAY STAR so…. She did more than enough.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
JAMEKA (just a horrid steer!), MOSSBEAT (held-up almost entire straight), ANFITRIONA (amiss), SALUTER (way too keen), LAOHU (no peace), LUCKY LIBERTY (buck-jumped!), HAURAKI (back./wide), HIGH DESIGN (tempo against/ had best late split of race), IT’S ONE (wide) and BERRIMILLA (back and wide Vs tempo).

In SYDNEY it was ROSEHILL and Track was rated GOOD, however, most riders stated it was closer to the SOFT range, there was no mad pattern, winners led and swooped today.

Run Of The Day:
Both HEADWATER and SAN DIEGO won differently, and by different margins, but both were excellent, leant to WASHINGTON HEIGHTS though for major end of the prize, he was not flash away and was still way back 500m out, factor in the quinella were sitting first, second and ran 29.64 1st-500m, he did a great job to power home late and only just missed the two leaders!

These three had a little break on 4th, winner ran 1-3.78. WASHINGTON HEIGHTS’ last 200m split of 11.56 was equal fastest all day, with gun mare Catkins.

What a race the Hobartville Stks looked, and it did not disappoint, the first four crossed the line with just .4L separating them, HALLOWED CROWN had nice run then was pocketed, he went inside the leader and simply did the better his last 30m or so; SWEYNESSE had nice trail into it, he hooked out 300m from home, drove, just missed; KERMADEC was terrific, he took some winding up but really stormed late and had race-fastest 11.74 last 200m, and, SHOOTING TO WIN who was bolting as they straightened, fancy his run just ended late!? SCISSOR KICK lost no friends, he was sound and was trightened-up late. Nice work through the line here from SWORN TO SECRECY, he ran 8th but his last 200m split was in fact equal-faetst with KERMADEC, home 11.74. PREFERMENT got warm once race was over, he had a 12.06 last 200m.

HEADWATER won what looked a deep Silver Slipper, he led in 29.9 1st-500m and was quite dominant! Overall time was not great, 1-4.38, but the win looked good and the opposition had plenty of depth to their form. VOILIER had old run and was a sound 2nd here, MISHANI HONCHO was a clear last and ridden along 600m out then strong late, he ran by OTTOMAN for the third prize. A few bubbles burst here!

What a ripper CATKINS is, sat off them, had clear air and was too good again, she recorded equal-fastest last 200m split of the day. PLUCKY BELLE weaved through and ran well, she was much better today! AVOID LIGHTNING loomed to win, fancy her run ended 100m out, she will be fitter. MARDI led and was honest, but no match for theses better mares up a notch in grade.

THE FORGIVE FILE:
KRISTY LEE (action?), ORUJO (wide), TALES OF GRIMM (start no help), NOTHING LIKE LUCA (very wide), PACEMAN (amiss?), DELECTATION (3-wide pulling/ no cover), GRAND MARSHALL (good late splits in race of little change), and LAIDBACK LARRY (covered ground).
