SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing was at FLEMINGTON on Saturday on GOOD-4 to GOOD-3 track with Rail 6m. Winners came from everywhere! In the two straight races, one was won Inside, the other, outside.
RUN OF THE DAY:
Honourable mentioned this week go to EL GRECO and HUSSON EAGLE but giving the nod to AZEEMA in Race 3, she sat back, hooked out and produced a big finale to score brilliantly, in doing this she sailed by KAIZAEN (who boasts the scalp of G1 winner Amicus – that girl has finished on heels of First Seal in another G1 (Coolmore))…
…The race rated very well, winner AZEEMA ran .19 quicker than the WC Heat later in the day when recording 1-22.83 for the 1400m, the early tempo was around 3L quicker than the WC Heat though (48.05 1st-800m). KAIZAEN was a solid second and only 2nd-up this prep. ZERPRISE JOURNEY measured up well after sitting off the speed with a trail she joined in but had no answer for two aforementioned swoopers. VOILENT SNOW closed well and BONNIE BELLE after being held-up hit the line in 11.83 last 200m, only winner (11.7) was quicker late.
Onto the WC Heat which was a fantastic race, the first three here were all excellent: YESTERDAY’S SONGS overcame a troubled passage, burst through to score, yes he had the weight advantage but he impressed and can measure up to Group company in the Spring. MR UTOPIA jumped up in the weights, sat back and charged home, the quinella here both ran 11.53 (race-fastest) last 200m. GOOD VALUE was closer to the speed but 3-wide with no real cover mostly, he hit the lead but was grabbed late… Yep, all three excellent ! Of the others: ACADEMY JACK was good on-pace and any rain around will help him further. TINY’S LEGACY made ground (5th-fastest home), there were many ‘forgive file’ candidates. Time: 1-23.02 off 48.60 1st-800m.
Race 1 for 2yo’s was also 1400m, EL GRECO impressed with 59kg, he took some time to wind-up then was very strong, he is a nice mover! He ran 1-23.94 so significantly slower time than older horses however, that 1st-800m split of 49.68 gave them little hope of ‘smashing the clock’. ALMONTEEL led and held 2nd. LOOK AT ME NOW is one to follow over 1600m, loved that last 100m, in fact, the 11.52 last 200m was 3/100ths quicker than the winner’s !!
HARD ROMP was Race 5 and ran fast time (1-2.93 is just .78 off the track record) and did it up in the weights today, he is at a new level this prep. NADEEM LASS ailed home 11.50 last 200m on outside rail for second, that late split was quick for the day. KLISHINA was a sound 3rd and STEREOSONIC hit the wire, home 11.87 was 2nd-fastest of the race but he is hard to trust.
HUSSON EAGLE showed his class winning Race 6 despite being closest to the inside rail, it was a race dominated on the inside, winner ran time again (56.86) and some sizzling splits (10.66/ 10.57/ 11.12 – quickest all day) and he beat ROUGH JUSTICE who led (34.96 1st-600m) and was gallant. STAR STEALER closed nicely fresh into prep No.2 and has a future. ILLUSTRIOUS LAD was good behind them after finding some traffic, they were all on the inside. The outside division was quinellaed by CASHED (who had backing/ good run) and ROSEN FROM DOUBT (on outside rail – better effort – Gelded now!).
THE FORGIVE FILE:
FLYING GEEPEE (too keen), AUTOMATIC CHOICE (wide), OLD CUFFLINKS (bit stiff !), MICK’S HUSTLER (found trouble), TOPKAPI (wide), BONNIE BELLE (held-up/ hit line!), MANAGERESS (ditto!), CINNAMON CARTER (wide), ANATINA (lame), TREVINDER (cardiac arrhythmia), HEAVY (may well have won), BERSERK (baulked/ tight key stages), SISTINE STAR (wide), PURREAL (heart irreg.), SIR ANDREW (luckless), HE OF SHE (stopped when building!), TRIED AND TIRED (held-up/ way back 60kg), FUTURE SOLUTION (covered ground), HOSTING (no guide), SELF SENSE (respiratory issues).
In SYDNEY it was ROSEHILL on SOFT-6 ground, most winners swooped today (two sat handy) but all were off that inside rail.
RUN OF THE DAY:
Podium is filled by three winners today, BROOK ROAD, REIGNING but major ‘prize’ goes to FIFTYSHADESOFGREY who came from way back and was held-up just when she wanted to be building momentum, she found room and rattled home to nail the leader…
…that leader was TRUE BLUE who had run a 37.13 1st-600m and kicked strongly, she gave winner 4.5kg too. FLORAL GOLD came down the outside for third but was no match for the winner. AMAZON kept closing and doubt was in the A-ground, wants further now too I fancy. Time: 1-12.6
Great to see the smart BROOK ROAD back to her best, she won Race 5 sitting off the speed and travelled up (bolting!!) before the easy win. WONDERBOLT was on her back and had 4.5kg less, ran home well for second. KRISTY LEE’s last 100m was very nice, 1100m is not her go, she had trialled super prior and is in for another good prep. They ran 1-5.47 for 1100m off an even 30.59 1st-500m split.
REIGNING has come back in terrific order this prep, he was ridden for luck, burst through and nailed BAGMAN who looked home, he had scouted wider on the turn and certain covered more ground than the winner, DREAM FOLK ran home well for third from last, in fact, the trifecta here were last, 2nd-last and 3rd-last at the 1000m. That adds merit to ECUADOR’s run given he was on-speed with 60.5kg, thought MISSVONN was terrific here too given she covered ground in swoopers race. The first four over the line covered just .5L – Time: 2-.03.8 for the 2000m.
Another swooper won Race 7, ROCKALONG, came from back/wide with the trail (good recipe today) and ran over GRAND PUNTO who had the good run, he was well-backed. MORAL VICTORY led in 46.7 1st-750m and held 3rd. LUNAR RISE covered ground and stuck to the task gamely. Not sure what is going on with BASCULE… Jury is out now! Time: 1-21.89 – Note, 2yo’s in Race 1 ran 1-22.17 for the same trip, their early split was quicker too, 46.11
THE FORGIVE FILE:
MERI RANI (wide/ did well), STIMULI (keen/ attacked lead 600m), BETTER NOT BLUE (forgetful day!), SKRIPCHENKO (in worst ground and poor recovery), SENTA DE NOCHE (rolled inside rail and worst ground), ABBASSO (needed more room/ hmmm), PUNCH YOUR WEIGHT (worst ground/ fitter anyway), HOLY DELUSIONS (tardy/ stayed inside) and CATSEYE SURPRISE (wide run).
