23 Oct Makybe Diva Stks Day G1 email
PLEASE NOTE:
All ratings for FLEMINGTON are for GOOD/ DEAD track. Rail is back to TRUE. Was 10m here last meeting (9/8) and those away from the inside rail had the advantage. Expecting even racing with no disadvantage to run-ons.
In Sydney it is ROSEHILL. Ratings are for DEAD/ SLOW track. Rail is TRUE. Was 6m here 30/8 on very wet ground, the track played well, most avoided being hard on the inside rail however winner’s of races 1 and 8 came from well back and saved ground near inside!
BET OF THE DAY (Melb)
FLEMINGTON – Race 2 No.5 – MARKSMANSHIP – Was 7-weeks between runs into Heatherlie when beaten by two talented stayers in fast time (.8 outside track record), back to peak fitness now, maps beautifully and ticked the dry ground box needed last time
BET OF THE DAY (Syd)
ROSEHILL – Race 6 No.1 – CATKINS – Resumes. Excellent trial untouched in fast time. Won 4 of 6 fresh and nutted Steps In Time this track/trip fresh last prep. Very well weighted this scale with 58kg. Surprised is ”black” odds. Top pick!
BEST VALUE BET OF THE DAY ROSEHILL – Race 8 No.5 – REFLECTANCE – Crowded/Checked key stage fresh then really hit the line in fast time (off great trial) then squeezed out here latest, picked-up and again attacked wire in Cluster/ Weinholt race. Sits closer here 3rd-up to 1400m and happy on top and great value/overs at $9 mark.
BEST EACH-WAY BET OF THE DAY
FLEMINGTON – Race 6 No.5 – RICH ENUFF – Outstanding win 1st-up, had to be used up to lead, then raced away and stopped the clock .88 outside the course record, a new season 3yo, at start No.2. First go straight and this race has more depth but happy to tip off that!
BEST ROUGHIE OF THE DAY
ROSEHILL – Race 5 No.8 – LUCKY CHAPPY – Also went very nicely fresh in on-pace race (good late splits) when 2L off Greatwood (then won) and now has 3.5kg swing. Home OK 2nd-up given he is not wet tracker and only went up 100m… Now to 2000m. Come up $21. Overs!
Lay Of The Day:
FLEMINGTON – Race 6 No.2 – BRAZEN BEAU – Good 3yo in great race, liked the trial, but cannot come in as clear fave in this hot race.
TOP-RATED RUNNERS:
FLEMINGTON
Race 1 – 3YOF SWP – 1100m
- MORE RADIANT – Resumes. Went very well in recent jump out. Just missed Bring Me The Maid on debut in high-rating race then back/wide yet still closed for 4th to Slipper quinella Earthquake/ Mossfun at start two. Maiden but top-pick.
- 1 – SABATINI – Produced big finish to win Quezette Stks and that race rated well relative to males on the day. Kept fresh suits as she stays at the 1100m, add to that straight track often offsets the need for further ground.
- 12 – WHITE HOUSE LADY – Bolted in on debut on heavy despite betting drift. Scratched last week for this and worked very well MV last week. Talented, obviously.
- 11 – TYCOON PERI – Resumes. Thrashed Shaf fresh in May who then won by a space off nice jump out. 3rd was Nicoscene who then won MV. Wary!
- 3 – AFLEET ESPRIT – Did win well MV last time at 1200m and reeled off 11.29 last 200m, one of the day’s fastest, comes back to 1100m only little query but winning hope, wide draw a plus for swooper.
Race 2 – Girls Day Out Hcp – 2000m
- 5 – MARKSMANSHIP – Was 7-weeks between runs into Heatherlie when beaten by two talented stayers in fast time (.8 outside track record), back to peak fitness now, maps beautifully and ticked the dry ground box needed last time.
- 8 – LORD DURANTE – Did some early work then really made Bagman stretch to beat him at first try 2000m last time, Bagman then closed well and finished on heels of top-level G1 performers Hawkspur and Royal Descent last week at WFA. Likely leader. Been up a while the only query.
- 4 – JACQUINOT BAY – Worked home OK fresh then only up 100m 2nd-up and wasn’t far off Mourinho (then G2 WFA placed in Dato) and finished right behind St Jean (so good winning last week). The value?
- 8 – TRADE COMMISSIONER – Jumped quickly to 1700m 2nd-up in Heatherlie and had sound late splits, he was 4L off Marksmanship, is fitter, has .5kg advantage, and a case!
- 1 – MASKED MARVEL – His 1st-up run in that Heatherlie was hardly any great guide. Much better suited 2000m, was running well G2 and G3 races at WFA in Sydney at this trip last prep.
Race 3 – Hcp – 1700m
- 1 – BRAMBLES – Went wide WFA fresh and closed well off the slow speed then beaten by good one in Heatherlie (.8 off track record), 3rd was Marksmanship who ran in previous for reference. The 60kg is the query.
- 9 – CORREGGIO – Good return 2nd to Eximius (since run well) then well-backed at big odds in 2nd-up but was clear forgive file member (internal bleed) in that Brambles race, has good 3.5kg weight swing.
- 7 – SIGNOFF – Just never got a serious crack at them 1st-up. Much better suited 1700m, big track and is fitter anyway. Exciting prospect!
- 3 – PRINCE OF PENZANCE – Did more than enough fresh (3rd-fastest last 400m) and did win well MV 2nd-up last prep at 1600m. Suited fitter/further here also.
Race 4 – Listed Living Legends 3YO SWP – 1400m
- 2 – CHIVALRY – Awesome fresh win Caulfield/1200m and he has looked a 1400m/1600m horse from day dot. Track spies tell us he has come on, big (home) track to suit. Happy to stick!
- 11 – DIVAN – Debut was excellent given the early check, he clearly should have beaten Merion who then sat wide and was good MV to Rich Enuff in fast/high-rating race. Went back last 1st-up off modest speed and ran over them! Measures up for mine.
- 3 – MERION – Wide off hot speed and still hit line fresh behind Rich Enuff who was .88 off the track record, he went super. Of course he beat Divan here in Spring at this trip.
- 5 – ZEBULON – Freshened. Charged late in top trial win. Top debut without luck to Zeletto then impressed this track/trip. Caught wide last time, and went very well.
- 1 – ZULULAND – Limited luck in Vain Stks fresh and went through line nicely. Didn’t quicken last time but closed late, he clearly was looking for ground, gets that here out to 1400m. Won Sires here in Spring beating Awesome Rock.
- 6 – FORGIVE AND FORGET – Must have case on Chivalry form too.
Race 5 – G2 Let’s Elope Stks – Mares – 1400m
- 1 – COMMANDING JEWEL – Was trialling brilliantly before the excellent fresh run when she just missed Gregers/ A Time For Julia who had sat 1-2 in the run, look at the replay, 50m after line she was 1L in front of them. Unbeaten 2nd-up, in fact, she won this race 2nd-up last year with 57kg beating Catkins. Top pick.
- 6 – SOLICIT – Resumes. Won Vanity Stks this track/trip fresh last prep in fast time. Thrashed Forever Loved into 3rd in Vinery in Sydney, that girl was almost as good as Commanding Jewel in Cockram fresh so that ties her right in.
- 3 – GREGERS – Scooted home 11.3 and fastest last 200m all day fresh and did it easy. Had to dig last time but won again and raced there like a mare looking for 1400m now.
- 2 – DEAR DEMI – Liked her last 100m fresh in Cockram Stks. Was 3.9L off them in G1 Coolmore 2nd-up last prep off very wide run. Proven herself better than mares grade. In this too.
- 7 – GIG – Back to mares grade off a couple of superb runs at WFA VS males, in latest she had fastest closing splits of the race, in a G1… What a ripper.
Race 6 – G2 Danehill Stks – 3YO – 1200m
- 5 – RICH ENUFF – Outstanding win 1st-up, had to be used up to lead, then raced away and stopped the clock .88 outside the course record, a new season 3yo, at start No.2. First go straight and this race has more depth but happy to tip off that!
- 12 – AWESOME ROCK – Top return Caulfield when peaked late and just about as good as Chivalry (form ref.?). Stays 1200m but drawn well off inside for Oliver to swoop. High class. Can win.
- 15 – GALAXY PEGASUS – Streeted rivals in maiden on debut and ran sizzling time, in fact, he was 9.2L faster than older BM64 horses later in the day! Worked very well midweek. Serious 3yo it seems.
- 9 – LOOKS LIKE A CAT – Resumes. Gelded/Blinkers on. Trialling well I hear. Probably should have beaten Almalaad/ Brazen Beau in G1 before spell. Big watch.
- 3 – GET THE NOD – Neat fresh win beating Stingray who was then good with little luck to Chivalry/ Awesome Rock so form lines tie in well. Great race!
Race 7 – G1 Makybe Diva Stks – WFA – 1600m
- 3 – BOBAN – Sat wide no cover in Memsie yet still attacked the line, thought he went super. Fresh run prior was excellent after the bad start and ran home terrific splits. Beat It’s A Dundeel in G1 at this trip 3rd-up last prep. Has gate 4 today.
- 9 – DISSIDENT – Love the way he put the race away 1st-up in Memsie, he ran great overall timer and sectionals of a serious racehorse, despite racing keen early. Just needs to repeat that. No issue 1600m and again gets good run.
- 6 – PUISSANCE DE LUNE – Wide/Stuck well fresh then sound home in Memsie when staying at 1400m. Now gets to mile, 3rd-up and looks ready to fire.
- 2 – FAWKNER – Resumes. One run at 1200m in Autumn was lovely work. Became G1 class last Spring and measured up at WFA. If right, he can win.
Race 8 – G3 Bobbie Lewis – 1200m
- 11 – CHARLIE BOY – Resumes. Excellent trial in Sydney, won untouched. Won Danehill Stks this track/trip fresh last prep then wasn’t far off El Roca in Guineas Prelude.
- 14 – TANGO’S DAUGHTER – Resumes. Nice jump out win herself. Her last fresh run was here (1100m) when good 3rd to Anatina and Gregers, they both measured up very well in G! sprints in Melbourne (to Lankan Rupee – Oakleigh Plate) and Sydney (Galaxy).
- 1 – SPEEDINESS – Resumes. Attacked line in latest jump out. Slow out/Closed well 3L 6th to Appearance at WFA fresh last prep. Won this race last year with 56.5kg. Beat El Roca home in G1 WFA in Sydney and meets him better relative weights.
- 3 – FLAMBERGE – Strong win fresh with 58kg in good time. Wide/Good 5th to Lankan Rupee in Oakleigh Plate 2nd-up last prep, finished behind Gregers. Has come of age.
- 16 – CHAUTAUQUA – Resumes. Another going super at trials. Went to a new level last prep. Likes wet but not just a wetty…
Race 9 – Listed Sofitel Stks – 1400m
- 18 – LATE CHARGE – Top pick if here and not the G1.
- 14 – UNDER THE LOUVRE – Has this serious finish on him! Flashed late again last time and ran 11.08 home which was fastest last 200m all day, he ran by Henwood (then won) and missed Trust In A Gust (huge last week). Now to do it at 1400m is all…?
- 13 – OUR HAND OF FAITH – Good return MV in same race as Under The Louvre and had limited luck at times. Won twice 2nd-up (including last prep) then measured up in G3 class. He can win here.
- 8 – DESERT JEUNEY – Nice return (best late splits despite limited room) and Hard Stride form ties in through Under The Louvre and Co. easily. Much better suited 1400m.
- 7 – BRAVE CENTAUR – Worked early/Ran well fresh at WFA in NZ. Goes forward here (gate 1) and may get soft run. Check astern but fancy measures up.
- 17 – BY THE GRACE – Better suited 1400m and on the Late Charge form… He goes in, has 2kg swing too.
ROSEHILL
Race 1 – F&M BM73 – 1500m
- 2 – COPY – Was month between runs last time and too strong for Sensualism (coming off a win) on heavy, taking line through My Sabeel (then won by a space and beat good one in Benetta) hoping it’s the right form.
- 6 – SENSUALISM – As stated, was no match for Copy last time but has 2kg swing and won well prior with My Sabeel form. Drier ground and 1500m non-issue.
- 8 – VILLA SPLENDIDO – Hit the line ok fresh in total on-pace race then stayed 1200m 2nd-up, again closed well. She may be looking for 1500m now, she did fade her one go 1600m but was up on-speed that day and that semi-inconclusive.
- 1 – BRING A RING – Had backing last time but raced wide no cover and forgive, was not far off Pyrrolic (then stretched St Jean) and Hard Stride (then beat Moment Of Change) prior!!
- 4 – WINGS – Won ok provincials latest with big weight. Two previous runs in town when flashed late said a win was near. Back to 1500m a query but chance.
Race 2 – BM80 – 1800m
- 11 – LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY – Has come back well. Really hit the line fresh at 1300m then worked home well 2nd-up behind Black Revolver/ The Alfonso in deeper BM80 than this. Was 2.6L off Entirely Platinum in March (4th-up) despite a bad start.
- 5 – COCKTAIL TIME – Too wet last time, forget that. Bloused by the flying Bouzy Rouge at 1600m prior on dry and in light for in-form apprentice, and maps well, goes close.
- 12 – MARTIAN – Returned a gelding Hawksbury and ran home hard at the 1400m, much better suited out to this trip and has more upside than anything in this race…
- 3 – SPECIFIC CHOICE – Hardly Mr Reliable. didn’t fire last time. Closed well behind Bouzy Rouge/ Cocktail Time prior and thrashed Saigon Tea before that… Ability is there.
- 10 – CLEANSING ALE – Another who can improve sharply here away from bog tracks. To 1800m no issue. Chance.
Race 3 – BM85 – 1200m
- 3 – WEINHOLT – Slow out then raced wide no cover two-back and clear forgive file member, out to $13 last time, went back, saved ground and beat a good one in Cluster. Up to 58kg a query but his Long John form is better than benchmark grade.
- 4 – WOODBINE – Resumes. Sat off speed in trial and won it quite well. Overcame trouble to win BM75 Randwick fresh last prep and was 1.8L off Dissident/ Atlante in a Hobartville Stks 3rd-up.. That looks fantastic form now!
- 9 – MURDER OF CROWS – Had his chance for mine last time but Weinholt was better, as was Cluster, and Mount Nebo. The fresh win prior was terrific, in good time. Given 2kg swing on Weinholt and now being 3rd-up he must have a case.
- 8 – BOSS LANE – Resumes. Trialled nicely (while back now). Been avoiding very wet tracks it seems. Was 3.6L 4th to territory fresh last prep then was not far off Sidestep and Shamalia.
- 7 – OH SO ADORABLE – Bloused on the line fresh then caught wide on very wet last time and that was clear forgive run. Expecting better.
Race 4 – Theo Marks – 1400m
- 5 – BULL POINT – Trialled well then big betting drifter fresh on very wet (they tried to scratch but were refused), he closed well behind a good one in Terravista. Was 1.3L 4th to Moment Of Change in G1 at WFA 2nd-up last prep at 1400m.
- 8 – CLUSTER – Restrained tail, came wide and flew home last time, huge run! Winner Weinholt saved the ground (and has form around G1 horses, as does this guy!). Little between them for mine.
- 4 – KIRRAMOSA – Good return in slowly run Missile Stks when tough tight key stage, her run ended late anyway I fancy. Won 2nd-up last prep. Beat Solicit later in the prep and that form reads well. Has a case.
- 2 – NINTH LEGION – Too wet for him fresh. Trialled well prior. His latest run on Dead ground was a closing 3rd to Terravista/ El Roca… Hmmm.
- 3 – ZEPHYRON – Resumes. Trialled well. A hope if here and track not too wet.
Race 5 – Kingston Town Stks – 2000m
- 8 – LUCKY CHAPPY – Also went very nicely fresh in on-pace race (good late splits) when 2L off Greatwood (then won) and now has 3.5kg swing. Home OK 2nd-up given he is not wet tracker and only went up 100m… Now to 2000m. Come up $21. Overs!
- 6 – LA AMISTAD – Lovely return at 1600m in Rowley Mile. Much better suited 2000m and fancy she can win a big race this prep. Bit scared one more run but like her!!
- 5 – GREATWOOD – Good Oz debut to Entirely Platinum then well-rated, handled heavy and impressed last time at nice odds. More pressure on paper today and weights against but still on the up, clearly can win.
- 1 – MR O’CEIRIN – Wasn’t far off them in Heatherlie and they were .8 off track record. Was 9-weeks between runs too. Has 59kg but has form around Streama at WFA and Moriarty and won 5 of 9 at 2000m.
- 4 – HE’S YOUR MAN – Nice fresh win then well backed but could not reel in Greatwood last time. 2000m no issue and better than heavy ground a likely plus too.
- 9 – CELTIC PRINCE – Caught wide last time and battled well. Fitter. Value hope too… In wider bets.
Race 6 – Sheraco Stks – Mares – 1200m
- 1 – CATKINS – Resumes. Excellent trial untouched in fast time. Won 4 of 6 fresh and nutted Steps In Time this track/trip fresh last prep. Very well weighted this scale with 58kg. Top pick!
- 4 – NEENA ROCK – Resumes. Slashing trial herself early August. Went better than Dissident in the trial. In quinella 10 of 14 in NZ. Wary!
- 6 – SHAMALIA – Resumes. Won 3 of 6 in first prep and form around her has been strong since. Good on-pace trial 2nd (gap to 3rd) and looks to have come on…
- 10 – MISS PROMISCUITY – Loomed a bit fresh and was not far off Pyrrolic and Hard Stride (mentioned hot formlines earlier) then doubt was in A-ground on inside rail latest, and good. Kept fresh. Drier the better?
- 2 – CHINTZ – Resumes. Sat off hot speed in trial and held ground well. Another Kiwi with top record at home but all her form is 1400/1600m.
- 7 – BELEL DE COEUR – Another resuming, her Cosmic Endeavour form last prep I like. Can run well too.
Race 7 – G1 Golden Rose – 3YO – 1400m
- 3 – HALLOWED CROWN – Top return win over the top of them in key lead-up race. Still unbeaten and did impress on debut on Dead ground so doubt is just a wetty. Stack of hopes, leaning his way.
- 12 – BETTER LAND – Wide no cover fresh yet still attacked line then badly baulked twice in Up And Coming Stks and still was only .8L off them, runner-up Panzer Division then beat handy 3yo’s last week.
- 6 – NOSTRADAMUS – Good strong win fresh in race record time then well backed 2nd-up but had poor recovery rate and rider said didn’t handle very wet ground. Expecting much better here!
- 1 – ALMALAD – Struggled on heavy fresh with 60kg. Back to level weights, back to dry. His G1 win before spell was terrific given start three, jumping 1200-to-1600m. Not sacking.
- 13 – BRING ME THE MAID – Nice return win on wet. Terrific in Golden Slipper before spell. Don’t see 1400m as any issue for her. Fillies do not have great record in the race but tipping she runs very well here.
- 11 – SARAJEVO – Still new/learning and good late last time, will relish 1400m it seems. Goes in.
Race 8 – BM80 – 1400m
- 5 – REFLECTANCE – Crowded/Checked key stage fresh then really hit the line in fast time (off great trial) then squeezed out here latest, picked-up and again attacked wire in Cluster/ Weinholt race. Sits closer here 3rd-up to 1400m and happy on top.
- 8 – BLACK REVOLVER – Deserved the win last time (finally found race with tempo) and impressed, luckless behind Weinholt a few runs back (ties in) and back to 1400m here not a major issue. Drier the better.
- 7 – MOUNTAIN VIEW – Nice return in fast Target In Sight race, he was home 11.5 last 200m, Reflectance was 11.54. Quick jump to 1400m will suit him. Can win.
- 11 – MARWOOD – Sound in high-rating race latest to Late Charge (form ref?) and jar out of track here, to 1400m are pluses. Late Charge has run well in a G1.
- 9 – TONOPAH – Resumes. Nice late work in trial. The 1400m fresh should suit off genuine speed on paper here.
