SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK:
Racing was at FLEMINGTON on Saturday with the rail 10m. Track was GOOD. There was no mad pattern/bias however certainly most avoided the inside lanes in the home straight as the day wore on. Slight headwind too which had an impact on early splits obviously.
Run Of The Day:
With honorable mentions this week going to FONTEIN RUBY and TEXT ‘N HURLEY I am giving the nod to KENJORWOOD who won Race 2 clearly despite being left in front a long way out off a hot speed, he held off one who is flying and they spaced the rest, he can go on!
His (KENJORWOOD’s) overall time of 2-02.52 was good and set-up by a fast tempo, leader MADAM NASH went through her 1st-1400m in 1-14.04, to put that into perspective on the day, she would have been leading Royal Amati (who led the other 200m race) by some 18L with 800m to travel. yes winner had no weight (51kg) but was strong/impressive. Runner-up COUNT ENCOSTA was terrific, again he was the only horse to break 24-secs his last 400m and as stated, he spaced 3rd, ECLAIR SAMBA who was found out a touch with said strong speed, he was under pressure a long way out, but was honest. SURPASS is ready to win on wetter ground.
The feature was R7 the Aurie’s Star and TIGER TEES was too classy and too tough for them even on the dry! He had some company up front and was challenged strongly by ZAMORAR with 300m to go but shook him off then held off the fast finish of MR CHARD who hit the line 11.82 his last 200m, only one horse went faster late, TEXT ‘N HURLEY who made a lovely, lovely return, she was always ridden along (run off her legs) but so strong through the line, her last 200m split was 11.69. SINO EAGLE measured up OK and SMACKDOWN was honest for touch easier. ROAD TRIPPIN did enough too, home 12:03 last 200m. Overall time: 1-9.86 was in fact .09 slower than the BM78 off a similar early split, add to that CREAMARY LANE was only beaten 3L so I have some concerns on the form…???
Race 4 held a lot of interest for 3YO’s and the winner, was the only filly in the race in FONTEIN RUBY and she did it with 58kg giving weight to (some) males so no knock at all, also, she did it coming from off the speed in a race where leader’s ran a slo-o-ow 51.75 1st-810m, she was niggled a way out (she will run evern further) and was headed by CORAM but too good for him. CORAM followed the winner and headed her so was every chance relative to the winner, still very sound though! BELUGA CAVIAR sat 2nd and was game, it was a busy race/finish. RAPOSO probably should have beaten them all, his hard luck tale was tough to miss… and tougher to watch if you were on! Time: 1-26.19 was slow however, that early split was ”a walk”.
Back to Race 6 and EXIMIUS was the best backed runner all day and impressed, he sat off a 49.72 1st-810m and ran 1-24.52 overall. They also specked CORREGGIO fresh-up and he ran very well also, he was not flash away then made nice ground inside before looming a bit, winner kept going far too well but this guy beat 3rd 2.25L. That 3rd-horse was SUPREME WARRIOR (every hope) and JACQUINOT BAY ran home into 4th, he was sound 1st-up. LOOT ‘N’ RUN was OK for wetter. UNDER THE SUN was given life 9-months ago.
ALIYANA impressed in Race 8 1st-up and first run for that man, D.K Weir. Given a lovely ride she showed her class late and beat WHISTLE BABY who was much better (albeit off a string of forgivable runs) and PINDAN PEARL who has come back well this prep. She travelled strongly and might be ready. NADEEM LASS was wide all the way and ran well given that, these four had 2.5L to spare over the rest. Of the others DANISH WHISKEY had OK late splits and not sacking her yet. Time: 1-24.99 for 1410m off a 49.83 1st-810m. Times relative to Eximius race were OK.
In the last ZEVADA was too strong, too tough for PRIZUM (loomed/ just cannot win one) and AMOVATIO (the end of 1720m found him out I fancy) and these three spaced VIZHAKA (should have finished touch closer) into 4th by 7L. Winner won 4th-up last prep off a 3rd-up win. Time was 1-45.71
THE FORGIVE FILE: DARLIMURLA STAR (saddle slipped), COMPOUND (wide), SPIRITED WILL (little luck then went inside lanes and worst ground), RAPOSO (probably should have won!), CLEVADUDE (building momentum when found strife, lame post-race), FREE OF DOUBT (lame), SHANGHAI WARRIOR (lame), WINTA CHILLER (poor recovery/ mucus found), NADEEM LASS (wide), WROTHAM HEATH (worked early/ pressured too soon & vetted: mucus found) and SHADOW NINJA (jarred up).
In Sydney racing was at RANDWICK and track was GOOD, rail was 6m. There were some fast times on the day. Most avoided being hard on the inside rail in the home straight.
Run Of The Day:
Honorable mentions go to BOBAN and BETTER LAND but have to go with AS NEEDED who resumed a strong winner and broke the Randwick 1300m track record by .90 running a 1-15.43 off a solid 35.39 1st-600m.
… He was well backed and far too good, he will get further too. Brilliant return! SOCIETY MAN led and held second and YOU’LL NEVER charged late, his 11.32 last 200m was the fastest all day. he is still flying! HUNTER JACK is ready to win something easier and may be silly odds so watch him.
Two feature races, we will start with Missile Stks Race 6 and SWEET IDEA showed she has real courage to go with her class, she led in 35.16 1st-600m and was joined by MESSENE on her inside but really wanted the win! MESSENE measured up well WFA and REBEL DANE, well, he didn’t quicken then was strong late, marked him solid with every chance. BOBAN was enormous after missing the kick then had no real momentum early in straight before launching late, his 11.4 last 200m was race-fastest. WEARY (home 11.58) pleased also, as did KIRRAMOSA (run ended late) and HAWKSPUR (stayed inside lanes – doubt A-ground but held his ground!). Time: 1-9.44
The other feature was Race 5 The Rosebud and SCISSOR KICK had a good run and was bit too strong, it was a real blanet finish with 1.5L only over the first six of them. Runner-up BETTER LAND sat wide no cover yet still surged late, his return was excellent. INKLING given 59kg (but with match fitness) hit the lead and toughed it out. SARAJEVO, well, he made the ”forgive file” and HERO I AM went through the wire nicely, his last 200m was 11.98 and race-fastest. BETTER LAND was 12.06 home and winner/Sarajevo shared a 12.08 split. Time: 1-9.78 off 34.44 1st-600m, so quicker early then slower overall than older WFA horses but that is fair enough.
Race 7 saw TARGET IN SIGHT return a winner, he sat back off a fast speed (33.56 1st-600m) and tracked fave RIFLEMAN everywhere before running over him, he had never been at 1000m but had too much quality, his last 200m was 11.34 (so 2/100ths off day’s fastest) despite that hot speed. Excellent return. Runner-up lost no friends, RIFLEMAN, winner just had last crack! MOUNT NEBO was solid and REFLECTANCE had no lcuk key stage and may well have tested the quinella. MOUNTAIN VIEW warmed up nicely late, his last 200m was 11.50.
In the last I’VE GOT THE LOOKS overcame trouble and 59kg to grab OH SO ADORABLE right on the line, all honours winner, runner-up was only 1st-up and was terrific. MISS PROMISCUITY measured up well, she stayed closer to the inside too. JACINTA was wide and held on well, mostly on-pace race was the last. Early split was 34.94 1st-600m and overall time: 1-9.74.
THE FORGIVE FILE:
LUCKY LIAISON (midrace move), ROCK HERO (respiratory noise), WILD AND PROUD (no luck key stage), SILOVITZ (stopped in tracks!), SARAJEVO (needed more room), NAYELI (respiratoy issue), BOLD CIRCLE (back/wide/pulled), BOBAN (as mentioned), MAYSOON (limited room/ galloped on), TEXAN LAD (given no peace), JACINTA (wide no cover), GOLD EPONA (raced tight/ on-pace race) and ALL CERISE (slow out/ went wide/ on-pace race).
