23 Oct CAULFIELD GUINEAS DAY 2016
PLEASE NOTE:
All ratings for CAULFIELD are for GOOD track. Rail is back True. Was 13m last week and winners were well off that inside section. Expecting level playing field with no disadvantage to those off the rail later in the day.
In Sydney we are back at RANDWICK and ratings are for GOOD track. Rail out 6m, the last 6m spot was early September and track was very wet, there was no mad pattern that day however most avoided being hard on that inside rail as day wore on.
BET OF THE DAY (Melb)
CAULFIELD – Race 8 No.2 – IMPENDING – Good in high-rating Golden Rose then to 1500m with blinkers on and came from behind Divine Prophet to beat him running terrific closing splits. Will eat 1600m. Top-rater.
BET OF THE DAY (Syd)
RANDWICK – Race 8 No.7 – DIXIE BLOSSOMS – Lovely return then badly blocked 2nd-up (had bit to give) before beating all-bar Tycoon Tara in Golden Pendant, she had high class girls behind her in First Seal and Heavens Above (latter just ran well in an Epsom) and mile no issue for her. The race ‘’rated’’ much better than Extensible’s race that day. Keen runs well.
BEST VALUE BET OF THE DAY
RANDWICK – Race 9 No.6 – BRIGADOON RISE – Luckless fresh and she was backed. Made ground on Takedown before spell and back to 85 class. From draw they can sit closer here.
BEST EACH-WAY BET OF THE DAY
CAULFIELD – Race 5 No.4 – SHIEDEL – Sat wide and finished with Wild Rain and Heatherly fresh, they both then beat Chautauqua in G1. Led and beat all-bar freak winner Hellbent here last time. Well-weighted to mares this scale.
BEST ROUGHIE OF THE DAY
RANDWICK – Race 4 No.2 – GAMBLED – Blinkers back on last time and he led/won when only 2nd-up. Won two mile races last prep by aggregate 7.8L. Leads here? Looks silly odds $16.
Lay Of The Day:
CAULFIELD – Race 9 No.3 – BON AURUM – Have to take him on here up in weights at 1600m at the early price.
TOP-RATED RUNNERS:
CAULFIELD
Race 1 – 2YO – 1000m
- 11 – SPOILS – 1st-start. Showed natural speed and won trial under no riding. Good win. Cost $350k.
- 1 – DOUBLE JEOPARDY – Good debut chasing smart Meadeenty in fast time (wind-assisted) last week. Never easy 2yo backing up off a debut but the trial prior was very good and he beat a couple of these (All EEz/ Miss Wahoo) doing it.
- 6 – JUKEBOX – 1st-start. Looks ready made 2yo off smart trial 2nd with big gap to 3rd. Go well.
- 9 – WAIT FOR NO ONE – 1st-start. Led/Won trial quiet well beating Redcore who was about 8L off Madeentay last week.
- 4 – COLUMBIA – 1st-start. Closed nicely in jump out and has ability also.
Race 2 – G2 Herbert Power – 2400m
- 4 – ASSIGN – Sectionals say did enough fresh at 1700m on wet. Jumped sharply to 2400m 2nd-up and matched motors with Almandin until late, they thrashed the rest, Almandin won Bart Cummings very well last week.
- 6 – DANDY GENT – Big run last week in the Almandin race when attacked lead a long way out on run-ons track. Has 2-0 record over Assign but Assign does meet him 4kg better from latest clash.
- 2 – HOWARD BE THY NAME – Had 3rd-fastest last 600m fresh finishing on Assign’s heels then again sound late splits G1/WFA latest and beat home Prince Of Penzance. Gets to staying trip and Mackintosh form looks good now.
- 1 – PRINCE OF PENZANCE – The class but left alone 60kg. Lovely late work in Maybe then did enough in Underwood behind Howard Be Thy Name. Worked better than that horse midweek. Great recent record over staying trips!
- 5 – PEMBERLEY – Going super and drops to 53kg here. Up a notch in class and somewhat unproven 2400m but in the mix.
Race 3 – G3 T’Bred Club Stks – 3YOF – 1200m
- 10 – IN THE VANGUARD – Resumes. Trialled super in Sydney. Thrashed handy Earth on debut then beat all-bar Scarlet Rain second go, she was unbeaten at the time, 5th-horse Kentucky Miss then beat a few of these at Flemington.
- 16 – HEAR THE CHANT – Looked smart on debut. Was in betting in Champagne Stks but luckless, she had a bit to give to my eye (been good recipe with recent winners Serenely Discreet/ Merriest etc. Often they have NOT had a hard run and can really ‘’bounce’’). Draws out today.
- 1 – SELENIA – Nice late in Quezette (3rd-fastest home) then battled up straight but last win terrific given she was wide up near strong speed and beat many key rivals here.
- 11 – STOP MAKING SENSE – Was unlucky not to beat Selenia MV when held-up and flew through late. Fitter and has weight swing now. Must have a case.
- 4 – CONCHITA – Resumes. 1200m a query fresh but big trial win by 10L and has won 2 of 4 with 2 x forgive runs… Beat Star Turn on debut.
- 5 – MODERN WONDER – Beat all-bar handy male latest, 6th Inside Agent won well last week. Include.
Race 4 – Listed Weekend Hussler Stks – 1400m
- 3 – CHETWOOD – Did some early work to lead Cameron field and kept running to beat Le Romain (ran super in Epsom chasing hot speed) with 5kg less. Can measure up here.
- 5 – BADAWIYA – Just fair fresh but closed nicely in G1 Rupert Clarke here latest and her Jameka/ Don’t Doubt Mamma form (most 3yo fillies form!) is strong.
- 9 – WELL SPRUNG – Gave him good hope in G1 Rupert Clarke but he was slow out and that was that. He was only 2.6L off Badawiya on the line and his run prior flashing home in best splits of the day was excellent.
- 6 – MABEEL – Resumes. First Oz start. Unbeaten fresh and won 4 times dry. Has good speed. Wary.
- 10 – RAGEESE – Worked home well in mostly on-pace race to Hellbent last time and step to 1400m looks ideal. Chance too.
Race 5 – G3 Mares – 1200m
- 4 – SHIEDEL – Sat wide and finished with Wild Rain and Heatherly fresh, they both then beat Chautauqua in G1. Led and beat all-bar freak winner Hellbent here last time. Well-weighted to mares this scale.
- 2 – SECRET AGENDA – Covered ground and far too good fresh. Wasn’t disgraced in G1 Newmarket 2nd-up last prep and has this terrific 1200m record. Danger.
- 10 – RAVI – Nice trial before good return beating all-bar gun mare Heavens Above who then went to an Epsom and only winner Hauraki had faster closing splits. This girl was backed. Wide gate ok now? One turn here anyway in sprints.
- 3 – SILENT SEDITION – Resumes. Big maiden win fresh last prep then beat Odyssey Moon who is easy to tie in with a few key rivals here. 4yo mare.
- 1 – MISS GUNPOWDER – No match for two handy ones latest, runner-up French Emotion won G2 last week too. 58kg the query.
Race 6 – G1 Caulfield Stks – WFA – 2000m
- 3 – WINX – Too classy for Epsom and Craven plate winners 2nd-up and her last go around 2000m she smashed the MV track record held by a legend in Might And Power.
- 1 – BLACK HEART BART – Strong win over He Or She last time with star mare Lucia Valentina behind those, that girl was brilliant winning QE Stks remember…
- 2 – HE OR SHE – Likely to run third.
Race 7 – G1 Thousand Guineas – 3YOF – 1600m
- 3 – GLOBAL GLAMOUR – Was not in A-ground when bloused by Foxplay in Tea Rose then led and kicked strongly beating good one in Yankee Rose, they beat third easy and race rated well. That was her first go 1600m. Looks the overs $7.
- 4 – FOXPLAY – Overcame difficulties yet still beat Global Glamour last time, in fact she is 2-0 over her. No reason to doubt her at 1600m. Drawn for good run for Bowman. Hard to beat !
- 2 – MISSROCK – Did not find fast lanes at Flemington then jumped to 1400m and may well have won Prelude with any luck! Back to level weights suits and mile looks ok. Value?
- 10 – LEOTIE – Good talent but still learning. Three very good wins this prep and excellent in the defeat. Has real closing speed.
- 12 – HARLOW GOLD – Strong win over males last time and beat one who then chased Hey Doc at MV latest. If she is not looking for 2000m now, she is in this for sure.
Race 8 – G1 Caulfield Guineas – 3YO C&G – 1600m
- 2 – IMPENDING – Good in high-rating Golden Rose then to 1500m with blinkers on and came from behind Divine Prophet to beat him running terrific closing splits. Will eat 1600m. Top-rater.
- 4 – DIVINE PROPHET – Held-up and flew home in Golden Rose then just couldn’t hold off Impending last time. He draws gate 1 so should get easy time to run a strong 1600m.
- 1 – SACRED ELIXIR – Gave most weight, and fitness in Prelude yet beat them. Raced away for terrific G1 mile win before spell in Qld.
- 5 – HEY DOC – Unbeaten as a gelding and last two wins (only two runs beyond 1200m) and been terrific! Wide gate but one from left-field here.
- 10 – EVACUATION – Very wide and held on super in Prelude. He was heavily backed. Closing speed in Sydney prior was not in same world as top-two through Golden Rose form but he has a case at 1600m here.
Race 9 – G1 Toorak Hcp – 1600m
- 4 – HE’S OUR ROKKII – Two impressive wins this prep and streeted them last time despite doubt being in A-ground. Mile suits even better. Won 5 of 6 now in blinkers. Gate 1 ok?
- 2 – TOSEN STARDOM – Should have gone very close in Dato (fastest last 200m without luck) and Jameka / Real Love franked that form. 5-weeks off staying at 1600m probably ok. High-class. Can win this.
- 10 – THAMES COURT – Solid and close-up in Rupert Clarke and suspect she is better at 1600m and with 4kg swing on Bon Aurum, is a value hope.
- 12 – MORAL VICTORY – Underrated. Top return win then backed and won Shannon Stks 2nd-up producing a slick 11.3 last 200m off a solid speed. Can measure up at odds too.
- 5 – JACQUINOT BAY – Going well in Group/ WFA races and suited back to Hcp. Must have a case.
- 6 – ROYAL RAPTURE – Still flying and gets weight relief into G1. On his Tally form he is a hope. Maps well again. Can make a case for many here !!
Race 10 – G2 Schillaci Stks – WFA – 1100m
- 12 – STAR TURN – Excellent fresh win then ran great closing splits but touched off by Astern (fancy he beats him with different ride) and winner was then awesome in Golden Rose. Happy to see Extreme Choice beat older horses last week for further formline.
- 1 – FLAMBERGE – Resumes. Sat wide with 58kg yet beat Fell Swoop in Oakleigh Plate (Heatherly 3rd – then good to Extreme Choice) and now meets Fell Swoop 5kg better! Great fresh record. Suited WFA. Overs $10 surely.
- 5 – FELL SWOOP – Resumes. Trialled quite well. Unlucky not to beat Flamberge in that Oakleigh Plate fresh last prep and can measure up WFA given he boasts 2nd to Chautauqua at WFA.
- 11 – OCEAN EMBERS – Freshened and has booming finish on her. Last two wins have been super given the slow speed. Suspect strong speed here will only be a plus! Can measure up.
- 7 – MALAGUERRA – Resumes. Strong 1000m win fresh last prep in slick time then won G1 and easy to tie him in through Fell Swoop…
RANDWICK
Race 1 – 2YO – 1000m
- 6 – SHOWTIME – 1st-start. Went every bit as well as last week’s impressive winner Khan at the trials. Cost $1.1M. Scratched last week when drew wide.
- 8 – LUIZA – 1st-start. Showed good speed/ ability to win trial clearly from key rival here in Severence.
- 3 – LIGHTZ – 1st-start. Also showed natural speed and won latest trial quiet well, bred to run early.
- 4 – SEVERNCE – 1st-start. Was ridden but closed nicely in that trial behind Luiza and the 1000m suits better.
- 7 – ZATAR – 1st-start. Ignore the trial, slow out mile back then stopped in his tracks. He picked-up and went over line nicely. Has ability.
Race 2 – 3YO BM70 – 1400m
- 1 – NICCOLANCE – Led and won Metro maiden easily fresh running good time. The two he beat easily will certainly win races and have form behind city winners! This guy has Astern/ Capitalist form from 2yo days.
- 2 – INVINCIBELLA – Gives weight to males but won good form maiden fresh then heavily backed Rosehill and beat all-bar swooper Zenalicious and they ran good time also. Big danger.
- 4 – CROWN HIM – Won maiden well enough fresh. Less than 1L off Attention and Prized Icon 2nd-up last prep then beat all-bar Prized Icon in Fernhill Stks.
- 5 – OCTAVIAN AUGUSTUS – Limited luck fresh then jumped in trip into Dulcify and raced keen, he was not far away. Back a notch and back to 1400m here.
- 8 – PECANS – Sound but no match for Invincibella 2nd-up but does have weight advantage today… and upside.
Race 3 – C&G BM85 – 1600m
- 1 – SIGNPOSTED – Won four straight before chasing Fabrizio in vain last time, be beat everything else clearly and winner was tipped by some good judges to run well in an Epsom (forgive file!). Claims down here. Handled dry well there but yet to win on dry is only query.
- 5 – HIPPARCHUS – Went way back fresh but liked the way he went over the line and was only 2.1L off Signposted on the line. Fitter. Stays at 1600m but value danger?
- 6 – MORE TO GAIN – dod effort last time making good ground on Metrop runner-up Antonio Giuseppe with 59kg on a track suiting those nearer the speed. Back in trip? Can win.
- 2 – BODEGA NEGRA – Good miler going well if you delete Ballina when wide, has form around Mr Epic who went to Vic and was not far off the flying Royal Rapture!
- 8 – BALMAIN BOY – No match winner last time but won 2 of 3 at the mile and gets weight relief.
Race 4 – C3 Highway – 1600m
- 2 – GAMBLED – Blinkers back on last time and he led/won when only 2nd-up. Won two mile races last prep by aggregate 7.8L. Leads here? Looks silly odds $16.
- 1 – DISTINCTIVE LOOK – Had backing at odds last time and beat Shotgun Roulette who is here. Good/ Close-up third in one of these three-back.
- 3 – GRAND ROUGE – Needs luck from draw now (goes forward to offset?) but going well although no wins 1600m he has run well in strong C1 at the trip.
- 10 – NOT FOR EXPORT – Was not far off Distinctive Look last time and went way back from bad draw that day, he ran well, he is proven 1600m and on dry… Draws out again.
- 7 – SHOTGUN ROULETTE – Another who must have a case if Distinctive Look does…Draws out.
Race 5 – BM83 – 2000m
- 5 – MY GIULIANO – Ran very well behind Antonio Giuseppe a few runs back and last four this distance range have all been good efforts. Carted 60kg latest onto dry for first time in the prep and ran over them. Key rival Broadside was one of those.
- 7 – BROADSIDE – Won on debut in Oz at Kembla then led and sound but no match for My Giuliano last time. That was his first go dry. Meets winner .5kg worse.
- 6 – SALTHOUSE – Bit disappointing last time when well held fourth off that good effort prior when had no soft run. This is infinitely easier than taking on Antonio Giuseppe!
- 10 – ZERO TO TEN – Led and no match for the trifecta last time but two of those just ran well in a Metrop and suspect back to 2000m is a big plus for him.
- 1 – MURPHY’S DELIGHT – Late splits say he did enough fresh and quickly to 2000m is the right recipe.
Race 6 – Hcp – 1400m
- 6 – HANDFAST – Top return in strong race Rosehill from back and wide then liked the fight in Bill Ritchie. Happy Clapper was right behind him. Ran very well to Mccreery 3rd-up last prep. Go well.
- 7 – HIS MAJESTY – Terrific return win then 61.5kg racing in inferior ground and old again 2nd-up. Closed well in Cameron Hcp latest and Le Romain from that race was very good in an Epsom chasing a hot speed.
- 4 – RELIGIFY – Resumes. Trialled well. Good fresh horse but never been at this trip fresh-up. Leads? Goes in for sure!
- 9 – FALKENBERG – Resumes. Good talent but still learning. Closed nicely in recent trial. Won maiden easily fresh last prep.
- 8 – BURNING PASSION – Tough wet-tracker. Kept fresh suits but likely firm going no help! Unders?
Race 7 – G1 Spring Champion Stks – 3YO – 2000m
- 11 – YANKEE ROSE – Ridden upside/down fresh yet only 1.2L off Omei Sword then forced to sustain long wide run last week and kept chasing Global Glamour and they got away on the rest. Race rated well enough. The 2000m looks ok.
- 1 – PRIZED ICON – Was in trouble vital stage and unlucky in the Gloaming. Beat Divine Prophet in Champagne in Autumn and no worries 2000m as long as he can settle.
- 4 – HIGH MIST – Looks the value $10. Came wide against pattern in Gloaming and loomed to win but saddle had shifted and rider was never full bore on him. Can beat Swear home and much bigger price but concede little between many of these.
- 3 – SWEAR – Shows promise. Kept closing in that Gloaming on better day to be handy and should eat 2000m… It was a blanket finish there but most are here so…?
- 2 – VELADERO – Led and great fight to win that Gloaming, yes pattern helped and he did fall in a bit but never decry winning form!
Race 8 – Angst Stks – Mares – 1600m
- 7 – DIXIE BLOSSOMS – Lovely return then badly blocked 2nd-up (had bit to give) before beating all-bar Tycoon Tara in Golden Pendant, she had high class girls behind her in First Seal and Heavens Above (latter just ran well in an Epsom) and mile no issue for her. The race ‘’rated’’ much better than Extensible’s race that day. Keen runs well.
- 8 – EXTENSIBLE – Won 2 of her last 3 and convinced if ridden off-speed she beats Antonio Giuseppe in the ‘’miss’’. Loved the win last time (ridden back) and was month off there… Danger.
- 2 – SPIRIT BIRD – Back/Wide and ran over them in Tibbie fresh. All her 2nd-up form is good. That fillies WA form kept rating highly from early 2016. Wary!
- 1 – ZANBAGH – Had track pattern and dry track against her fresh, forgive. Good when 2L off then in G1 Coolmore 2nd-up last prep. Was on heels of It’s Somewhat 2nd-up prior.
- 10 – UNEQUIVOCAL – Nice trial then pleasing return before not being far off them in Shannon Stks and that race rated well too… Chance at odds.
- 9 – HAPPY HANNAH – Found line nicely fresh and suited mile too.
Race 9 – BM85 – 1200m
- 6 – BRIGADOON RISE – Luckless fresh and she was backed. Made ground on Takedown before spell and back to 85 class. From draw they can sit closer here.
- 2 – ROCK FORTHE LADIES – Resumes. Sat deep off them and ran over top in nice trial win. Won BM84 fresh last prep then beat all-bar Pilote D’essai who has Royal Rapture form.
- 3 – SUSPENSE – Right on heels of Moral Victory fresh, winner franked that form! Won only other 2nd-up run. Great dry track record.
- 11 – TOP ME UP – No answer for handy one last time but beat everything else and back to 1200m no negative. Gets weight relief and senior rider up. Leader? Pattern?
- 5 – DENPURR – Beat handy field fresh and that form was franked WFM Monday. Her 2nd-up form is better than stats say, she was only beaten 1.3L in Reg Allen 2nd-up one day.
- 1 -LUNAR RISE – Trialled well but never won, or placed fresh so…?
Good luck !
